This has been going on for a few pages now. I'm very surprised none of the 7 Sisters have been added yet. Let's keep this moving. Grinnell still needs to be confirmed. If you hear that ANY college has started taking people off the list, copy, paste, and add alphabetically to your post. We'd really appreciate this!

Haha, take a well-deserved breather, people. Nothing's gonna happen til Monday.

I'm the supposed 'troll' who has apparently plagued the Grinnell page and I now simply laugh when I think of some of the claims pinned against me(pre-waitlist response stress I'll assume)! But anyway, my circumstances seemed pretty unusual when compared to the regular waitlisted student. I was given an amazing offer at a peculiar time and considering that I'm an international with just above average test scores, I'm still shocked about it all. I was offered a place on the 21st of April but given a May 1st deadline like all the other regular decision applicants who were offered admission(a bit unfair I thought but who am I to complain). That pretty much fits in with the speculated 10-day deadline given to the accepted waitlisted students. I can't confirm how 'active' the Grinnell list is but judging by what happened to me, you never know. I don't suggest pinning your hopes on my situation since it doesn't really represent an accurate slice of the waitlisted applicants but it does give indication that prospective students' files are being opened for a second looking.

hey everyone, i just got off of hamilton's waitlist yesterday .. i wrote them a letter earlier in the month reiterating my interest and sent a copy of my school's newspaper (in which i am news and copy editor) along with it. i also had a teacher write me a recommendation. basically, the admissions officer i spoke with said that my continued interest played a large part in removing me from the waitlist. so if you think it's too late to write a letter or something, at least call the school and express interest.

^^ Do you think it's really to late to send a letter anymore (through e-mail)?
I'm writing one, and do you think there's point? :(

redsexton, just to clarify. I never said I was going to do the calling. I was merely inquiring about protocols and expectations; fat envelopes, e-mails or phone calls. My D is going to make the phone call when it's time for her to do so, thank you. :)

Does anyone know if there's a high chance that MIT will use the waitlist? I'm so nervous about MIT... I want to go there so badly!!!!!!!!

MIT usually has a very low waitlist admittance. But anything could happen this year.

My personal experience, whenever I called I got better and more information from the school - admission or housing. Often adults are just not as responsive to kids. I agree it's important for young people to take ownership of their college process, but for something as important as getting off the wait list I don't think it's unreasonable for parents and GC to call (our GC offered to speak with the adcom in person).

Last year my daughter wanted to change her housing preference. When she called she was told it would be dealt with when she arrived. When I called it was no problem for them to get online to change her room, it was done in 5 min.

I would call for my kid.

Is University of Michigan taking people off?

added Harvard to the list!

someone I know on Facebook was taken off the Harvard waitlist on May 1

Does anyone know anything about Vassar? I think they said sometime after may 1st they would let people know, but I lost the letter. :(

Is housing available for those taken off the wait list?

yes I have the same question...also, do most let you wait to decide until they provide with a financial aid package or at least an estimate??
has anyone heard about the quinnipiac or university of san diego waitlists???

From what I've heard, most schools will send you a financial aid package with your thick envelope.

oh, and thanks, oldfort, for making me feel better and, uh, less judged? That out of the way, and while waiting for a response to my query about housing, I want to go back to a part of my original question: Will a student that's been taken off the wait list still get a fat envelope? Thanks.

MamaBO - it depends on the school.

Thanks, nkmc.

I am also currently in the process of writing a letter for Harvard though I already sent one a couple weeks ago with 2 letters of recommendation. I'm figuring that a letter at this point could still help, and shouldn't hurt, but what do you think?

also, I'm wondering if it would be okay to mention something like "from what I've gathered talking to Harvard regular admits, there may not be anyone from my school going to Harvard, so I'd like to have the chance to represent my school (since they won't)"? Do you think this is a wise or low move?

I have a question- my Northwestern admissions officer (from my area) is going out of town. I left a message, but she's apparently leaving on the 5th and not coming back until the 12th. Because I'd absolutely die if I had to wait that long to speak to an official, who should I speak with instead? I'm going nuts
