Dan, we're all the way in Asia. We're talking about a 12 hour-time difference. But let's say D is informed via e-mail. She'll still get the fat envelope containing pretty much the same stuff she got in her acceptance packets, am I correct?

MamaBo - call the school yourself. Many schools will not officially accept you until they get a commitment from you over the phone. By calling you could tell them that your daughter would very much like to go and you are willing to commit. It may just bump your daughter's chance up.

MamaBo, schools take very few kids of their waitlists and even less international students. I, myself, am international with a 5 hour difference between Ireland and the school I want to go to. I guess they will call those who get off the wait list. Realistically, if it's 10pm where you are, the adcoms are probably starting work then, so it'll be a good time to call.

Also, why do you have to phone them? Can your daughter not do it? I'm sure they'll remember the girl who stayed up til all hours so she could call them to let they know she would absolutely enroll if accepted.

If your daughter really wants to get into the school, she should call them herself.

anyone heard from Cornell or JHU yet?? i hope they do... :'(

Well this is second hand...but my friend's friend was offered a place in next year's class at cornell after being wait list-ed...

has anyone heard anything from Yale?

My friend got off the waitlist at Duke. Everyone was super-happy for her since she didn't have to take a year off after all.

MamaBo, if a college wanted to reach you and you were 12 hours off, I would guess you would get a call at about 9 p.m. your time when it is about 9 a.m. U.S. time. I think they would call, not email. I agree that having your child call them - just to check in - at about 10 a.m. in the U.S., 10 p.m. for you, is a good idea.

The following is the quote from a student on the Hamilton site:

(The admissions officer) said that after May 1st they had some idea as to how many kids they were going to have (although not a definitive number), so they were calling a few waitlisted students to gauge their interest in attending. Once I told him that Hamilton was one of my top choices, he congratulated me and told me that I'd been accepted off the waitlist. For the students who got off, you have 10 days to decide if you want to accept their offer or not.

School are already taking people off the waitlist??

I thought they were going to re-evaluate all the applicants, a process that would take at least a week?

Many schools say that their lists are unranked, but I highly doubt it.

Most schools probably already have an idea of who they want, anyway.

No one really knows if the schools are 'unranked'.

is columbia taking people off? they say on the letter the earliest response would be May 15th????

Lol, is this going to be another 100+ off the wait-list from Duke time?

Columbia is definitely starting to take people off.
