Waitlist success stories

Can anyone send a sample template or copy of a waitlist interest/update letter? I'm kind of stuck on how to open and conclude the letter...

well said TAdd

Yep i got a friend here accepted off the waitlist for Duke as well. (Trinity)

Oh by the way she was an international as well (for admitted1230's info)

wow... that's amazing!

hi guys, any idea about Penn? Specially any international students?

uphill, do you know when she got the news? =)

Smustehsan, I don't know about the movement on UPenn waitlist, or if you've already read this somewhere, but I found this about UPenn waitlist

Show you're still interested. Admissions offices don't want to extend an admission offer to someone who is no longer interested in enrolling. The University of Pennsylvania gives waitlisted students a one to four rating, with a one signifying a top-choice applicant. Still, it's possible to move up in that ranking, says admissions dean Lee Stetson, and showing interest in attending Penn is one factor that can help. The school welcomes a note or a phone call to the admissions office indicating that a student appreciates making the wait list and hopes that they will ultimately be accepted.

hey thanks for the information Boho_girl. I hope my letter of continued interest helps me.

Any info on whether Lafayette started accepting off the wait list? Some postings on facebook groups seem to indicate this-anybody who can confirm this. Thanks.

Hello,
For those of you who are calling your respective colleges, i was just wondering that WHO do u talk to when u call the college and what do u tell them? Please can anybody answer this?

I call admissions directly, and ask them directly about the wait list status.

After MIT released regular decisions on March 15th, I sent a later on March 20th and some artwork that I forgot to include earlier. Then On April 10th I sent a letter requesting whether or not I can visit the school sometime on my college trip even though I'm on a wait list. Is there anything more that I can do or is what I have done sufficient?

I would suggest writing a new letter that speaks to why you want to attend MIT. Write it, perfect, make it sincere and mail it. Then just leave them alone for a while.

That's what I did for Grinnell...I still haven't heard though...In the meantime, I was removed from Connecticut College's waitlist, so that's good news. In fact, I didn't even send in any supplemental stuff. They just called me 2 days ago and offered me a spot.

This shows that a lot of these top colleges, in my opinion, DO prioritize their waitlist candidates to some degree. I'm not trying to sound selfish, but I honestly did not show any extensive further interest to Conn, they just called me. The guy said he was interested in my extracurricular achievements, etc, and he wanted to offer me a spot.

Honestly though, who knows about the science of waitlist admission...I'm still hoping for Grinnell.

any one know anything about Tufts? I am really holding out hope for them, I have send two letters, two more letters of rec(not including another letter from my guidance c) visited, delievered the letters personally(i live in the area) as well as assured my admissions officer and the crew coach that i would attend if i got in. I some how manage to get on 7 waiting lists

Goldberg2 and anyone else who feels down about being waitlisted by multiple schools- A girl in my class who is the class president, designs dresses for a cancer research fund (she had a tumor when she was in 7th grade), volunteered in Israel over the summer, was the editor for the school literary magazine, won a $40k entrepreneurial scholarship, and has amazing grades was waitlisted at 5 schools including her top choice. Do not take the waitlistings as anything personal. I think this year goes to show how random college admissions are.

i have noticed, i am slowly getting happier with my choice,(BU) and I plan on transferring after a year there. I am hoping that this randomness will be good for the waiting list. Impressive girl, i am guessing it was harvard that waitlisted her. A friend of mine got into three colleges and waitlisted at harvard, and he some how managed to end up at umass, another friend, got waitlisted at about 5 and one a visit ran into a dean and got off of a wait list. this year is so wierd.

No not Harvard, she was waitlisted at Barnard and 4 other schools.

ah, well best of luck to her. I am debating calling the office tomorrow and asking or just sitting and waiting. There is hope, i really hope appealing the coach helped. I am a rower, and my current team about two minutes faster than Tufts, so I hope that helps

Ahh good luck! I think tomorrow will be the day when things really start moving. The school that I was waitlisted at sent a letter saying that they would start letting us know after May 5th because they will have determined their class size by that time. The whole waitlist situation this year will have a domino effect on the majority of colleges I am assuming: when someone gets off the waitlist for Prestigious University they will forfeit their deposit for Small LAC which will then free up a spot for someone on the waitlist for Small LAC who made a deposit to Decent State School which will then free up a spot for someone on the waitlist for Decent State School...

It shall be interesting. My school sent us forms requesting our college information so they know where to send our IB scores and the forms were due May 2nd... I think that was bad judgment on my school's part due to the enormous amount of waitlisted students..
