Waitlist success stories

probably i am not sending my last quarter grades. but there is also the economy that is on the fritz, so the dynamic is even more random. I think that alot of the state school spots will be taken by kids that got into PU or SLAC, therefore creating even more spots, I mean 70 spots at Duke?!?
I heard from the coach to ask around next week if they are going to the waiting list. where are you waiting on?

I'm waiting on St. Lawrence. The only thing that might hurt my chances of getting off the waitlist is the fact that I will be in Japan from August 2008 - July 2009 for a foreign exchange program (which means I will have to defer enrollment) and they might assume that when I come back from Japan I may not want to attend St. Lawrence or something. If that's the case I'll reapply while in Japan (a girl from my school who went through the same exchange program did the same: she was rejected from Tufts her senior year and reapplied while in Brazil and was accepted)

waiting on stanford, which says it'll give all waitlisted students an update by the 5th. ah, but things look grim... =(

I am waiting on Stanford and Harvard, but I am starting to care less about them because I just got pulled off Columbia's waiting list and waiting for their financial aid package to come in the mail tomorrow.

congratulations, columbia is amazing, i was a legacy until i got deferred and then rejected, dont get stuck in carman if you have allergies

Thanks for the tip. =] I do not have allergies....not that I know of.....

You are waiting for Duke?

Tufts among others

Well I hope you get into Tufts. The trend seems to be that colleges are overall using the waitlist more than any other year. In my case, I think Columbia seriously underenrolled this year because they started pulling kids off at the beginning of May.

My friend is on it as well, from LA as well, he was set on NYU. I dont know if he has heard. I hope that I did give them to much stuff. and thanks, best of luck with your four years in the hieghts

I got Wl at U Chicago and Carleton. Anyone heard of people getting off at either of them? I wanted to go to Carleton so bad . . . Sent in 2 letters, a personal statement, and additional letter of rec, with updated grades. . . Hope that A- in AP calc doesn't hurt. What are the chances at UC and Carleton? Slim to none?

Deposited at St. Thomas, but might go to Northland College. I'm feeling extra green.

Thanks. But I need to see financial aid before I click the accept button. I find it weird that the waitlist completely changes where we will go.

I would not worry so much at this point, Northern Lights. You seem to have done all you can at this moment. I haven't heard of those schools taking people off the waiting list yet.

Nice job, i got the small letter really early. this year is wierd so dont give up. thats true, i would love fin aid, but i was offered at any of my non state schools was loans, and not much of that. I say take the debt, its columbia

I'm so, so, so, so scared. I'm trying not to expect anything but my birthday's on Tuesday and getting taken off the Barnard (or Emory, but really Barnard) waitlist would be the best present imaginable.

Well 49.5k debt is big for my family and I have a sister who is at UC Berkeley so I need to really look at the finances. Plus, it is NYC so that adds extra debt for leisure.

true that does make it harder, you have heard about the large addtion to the endowment columbia got?

College admissions seems like such a crapshoot. . . My friend with very similar stats as me got into U Chicago and Notre Dame along with Cornell no problem. It seems so subjective.

Yeah and because of that, I hope that I see a lot of grants on the financial aid letter on Monday when it arrives at my doorstep......But then I do not know if they will meet my EFC because all the money probably went to the other students who were admitted in April.

Well Northern Lights, a lot of the college admissions is subjective to a point. Once a person is academically qualified, they start looking for qualities that cannot be measured or easily defined and compared.

hopefully and probably, and yes it is a crap shot, i took a years worth of course at an elite university, finished five years of high school curriculum in four years, did decently on my sats, and was a recruitable rower, and i got into my safeties and waitlisted at my matches, oh and rejected by 8 schools including the ones i had taken courses at

bartlet4america: good luck! I also have my fingers crossed for Emory...
