thanks uphill...

You can add Lafayette College to the list since they are surely taking people off the waitlist.

ACTIVE:
Boston University
Brandeis
Carnegie Mellon
Case Western
College of Wooster
Columbia
Connecticut College (NOT UConn)
Duke
Emory
George Washington
Grinnell (Unconfirmed)
Hamilton
Harvard
Layfayette College (unconfirmed)
NYU
Northwestern
Swarthmore (heard of 1 person so far)
Trinity University
Tulane
Vandy

if harvard IS using its waitlist, that means they had a lower yield, so its competitors probably won out on some students, meaning perhaps Yale, Stanford, Princeton won't be going to the waitlist as much, if at all.

Why do you say unconfirmed about Lafayette? They are calling up people to find out whether they are interested. If so they send the acceptance letter. That's the game they play for the yield! Right?

I wasn't sure what the story was, so I just put unconfirmed beside certain colleges as a lot of the info above is second hand (friend-of-a-friend, that sort of thing). Same with Grinnell. Someone said they were taken off the waitlist, and they were accused of trolling. If you know for sure that a college is taking people off the waitlist, add them.

I agree with inthezone (post #378). Where is the confirmation that Harvard iwill use its waitlist? Anything actually stated from Harvard on the issue?

it doesn't appear that harvard has made any official statements regarding its waitlist. (checked the crimson website earlier) what everything is now is just hearsay

I just called Stanford - they say they are waiting for Transfer responses - apparently their deadline is mid-May. They say they are only planning to notify re waiting list around the end of May. Ugh!

anyone heard anything about caltech? :))

Reply 291 (auraeight) added Harvard to the list.

Their friend on FaceBook got the call on May 1.

A student at the school I work at got off the waitlist for Smith in August. Yes, August. Summer melt goes right up until they move in......however the finaid usually is little or less. Good luck, waitlisters.

anything about rice?

Have you seen the threads on the Harvard links ? Someone there has suggested that the admissions committee is meeting on the 9th of May. Till then the admissions office is being very secretive and not disclosing any information as to yield or size of waitlist. I guess we just have to wait patiently.

Internationals will find it hard to wait for as long as July, as it takes some time to process the I-40 student visa. We've been advised to start work on it by June, so for my D the wait can only be up to June.

ahhhhh i can't take this much longer! people are getting off for both the schools i'm waiting for (nyu and northwestern). i need this to be over.

@ rom: Are you serious?? Then why the heck did they tell us May 5th? And why does transfer applicants even matter, they won't be in the class of 2012 anyways... or do they have a quota for number of students in the school overall?

^^ I think it's the latter. It has more to do with the number of beds they can offer, I believe.

I got accepted into NYU off the wait list and didn't really do much to "improve my chances." While I do think that contacting the school during my wait time would have helped, i'm not sure how much it actually could have done. Every situation is unique.

any news on Amherst?
