Waitlist success stories

congrats!!! has anyone heard anything about brown??? word is they ARE going to their waitlist but so far i've not heard of anyone getting in. i'm DYING.

My friend got into Georgetown last week; he recieved a call. Another friend of mine got into CalTech and Duke.

Carnie, we just addressed everything to the Director of Admissions. She probably passes it to regionals, but since choices will not be by region, wanted to make sure it was seen by ultimate decision-maker, who probably just chairs the meetings...

My son's college counselor pretty much told him to write a letter saying that the waitlist school was his first choice etc, but not to bother with anything else, because he wouldn't get off the waitlist anyway ( of course, this is my son's paraphrasing of her words, so please take it with a grain of salt! ;) )
I was a little upset at first, but now my son seems really excited about where he has decided to go, I am almost a little worried about him getting in OFF the waitlist. I don't think it will happen, but I am not sure what he would do if it did. Hopefully, this will all be a moot point in a few days, but for you students who have been accepted off the waitlist, how have your feelings changed about your waitlist school, and the schools you had decided to go to?

They've gone to the waitlist.

Who has gone to waitlist, ses?

Sorry, it didn't include the previous post.

BROWN has gone to the waitlist.

Excellent news! Thanks ses. Hopefully some people who really want to go there will be able to-- and spaces will open up elsewhere as well.

Still waiting on Vandy..
Waitlist is like the worst thing that could ever happen to you.

Do schools contact you as well to let you know they will not be accepting you off the waitlist? Or is no news just bad news?

apparently, at least for brown, they will send out letters at intervals saying something along the lines of, "we haven't closed the waitlist yet, and you are still on it..." etc. to the kids they dont accept. but basically you don't get rejected, just notified the waitlist is closed....in like, june : ( and i would guess that if you don't get in during the first round (which is now), you just fill in places of acceptees who abandoned their deposit to go to a school that accepted them off a waitlist.

I JUST got off of the Johns Hopkins waitlist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bye, GWU! Hopkins, here i come!

twosonmom, I dont know about the others , but I definitely prefer the college i will be going to now(caltech) than the one i was going to go to prior to getting off the waitlist(i.e Penn)..
Caltech was always my no. 1..Penn did grow on me during the past few months, but not enough for me to choose Caltech over Penn..
to sum it up, I always loved the school i was waitlisted at..i definitely liked Penn a lot more recently than i did in the beginning but just not enough to make me choose it over caltech..

Did your son get off the waitlist yet?

sushi - yeah sometime in July. Until then, they may still have some ripple-down openings from other openings at other schools. Think of it as Chinese water torture...

i am an international applicant waitlisted at penn & trinity college ;
so i was wondering how may of those in the above success stories are actually internationals ?

anuj44- No we haven't heard anything yet. I am not sure what would happen if he did get in. He really is excited about the school he is now planning on going to ( which his father and I always thought was the "best" fit for him academically ), but the other school was his "first" choice so we would have supported whatever decision he made. He has been filling out housing info and one of his good friends will be going to the same school as he will be going to so we no longer hear anything about "THE" school.
As I said in my previous post, I think it is highly unlikely he will get off the waitlist, but I will be very glad when this whole process is over!!
Congrats to all you students who do get off the waitlist!!

Harvard has started accepting a few from the waitlist.

051407 I am an international student(from India)..and if it helps i just told Penn i wont be coming(i had paid my deposit there) so that opens up one more spot..go grab it! : )

chacha(wasnt it twosonmom?) best of luck..sounds like he will enjoy more at his "fit" rather than his "first" choice..I do agree though-whether it is an acceptance or a reject, it does help bring closure to the whole college application process..

anuj44 why aren't you going to Penn now? Did you get off a wait list?

yes..i was going to go to Penn for engineering..
I recently got off the waitlist of caltech..Caltech was always my first choice..so yeah..il be going there.. : )
