Wondering if anyone has experience with UD's waitlist.

Were you admitted after being waitlisted (especially someone OOS)? Did you do anything special to help get yourself off the waitlist?

Thanks.

UD genarally accepts a fair number of students from the wait list. The last specific figures that I have are for 2011. That year 1,952 were offered placement on the wait list, 857 accepted a place on the wait list, and 285 (33%) were subsequently admitted (there was no breakdown for in-state verses OOS but I suspect many, if not most all, were OOS). There has been a high degree of variability over the years however, so I am not suggesting the same numbers will hold true for this year.

Some things to keep in mind if offered placement on the wait list. First of all, it is not ranked (but it probably is broken down by major applied to) so if you are interested in pursuing admission after being offered wait list placement I would do so ASAP (like reponding right after you get the offer). In the past some applicants have subsequently sent a brief letter to Admissions restating their interest in attending, outlining the reasons why, stating how they feel they could be an asset to the student body at UD, and delineating why they feel attendence at UD would best prepare them for their future careers. Some have felt the letters helped (those accepted) and others who felt it was a waste of time (usually those not accepted). So who knows if it really helps but certainly I don’t feel it would reduce ones chances. In past years UD has begun to accept students off the wait list in late March and thru April but most were accepted after May 1.

Hope this info is helpful.
