Hey guys, I was waitlisted at Notre Dame. Right now I think if I got in I would go.

So, does anyone have any stats for the waitlist, how many are on, how many get off of it and what the process is like?
Has anyone on this board been waitlisted at ND and gotten in, or rejected?

Any advice on what I should do that would help my chances most? Unfortunately, my third quarter grades are not as good as my first semester grades were.

Thanks for all the advice and comments in advance!

I was waitlisted last year and eventually accepted.... I'll be posting a lot about this probably next weekend but I have a VERY busy week. But my first advice is to send Dan Saracino an email expressing that sentiment and then get in touch with your admissions counselor... be friendly and just ask what you can do (i.e. send in additional things etc.). Call yourself, don't have your parents call. The key is to show that you are still achieveing in high school and that you really want to be here. I imagine that it's the names that they know and within that the students they know want it that will get in. I know a LOT of waitlisted guys... so don't give up.. there's hope!!!!! I'm proof!

I am not following what hazmat is saying. Anyways, waitlist numbers depend from year to year. Last year they took very few people off the list, but in past years they have taken more. I have many friends who have been on the list so I do know that you can get in off of the waitlist. What you should do is send in any updates that can help you. Send in awards you win, grades, anything that helps your case. Also, perhaps write a letter telling them that Notre Dame is your top choice (if it is, it sounds like it) and you will come if you get in. Be honest, but show them that you have genuine interest. Usually the ones who do not get in off th waitlist are the ones who do nothing and wait for the card to come.

are you only supposed to accept one school's wait list position? and if you are taken and accepted from the wait list that doesn't mean you are required to go there right?

I don't think so, but I am not really sure. I know I stayed on a waiting list when I applied to colleges but I don't remember that rule...maybe I should have read all that more closely!

You can stay on lists at any number of schools, and no there is no definite commitment if accepted (mind you, one of the most effective things to tell a counselor when you're looking to get off the list is that if accepted you'll go for sure... but only say it if it's true!).

US News for Fall 2004
Qualified applicants placed on waiting list: 840
Applicants accepting a place on waiting list: 574
Students enrolled from waiting list: 129
Total Class Size 1985
6.5 % of Class came from the wait list

do your second semester grades factor into the decision if your waitlisted. I know they will see them eventually, but if they make the decision before the end of June, dont they want seconds semester grades by July 1, meaning after they decide?
