Sounds like a very specific case of needing a field hockey player. Well, nice to know someone else has gotten in but if they actually overenrolled as the article above indicates, I don't see much hope for a big move on the waitlist.

Any updates on the wait list activity ?

I haven't heard anything

My daughter just sent an update of grades to the admissions counselor for our area and he said it is very unlikely they will be going to the waitlist. I think they would have to lose quite a few student to other schools over the summer, which is unlikely since they are reportedly overenrolled.

SS1955-- do you think it is kind of crazy that they are not yet making any statements to those still on the waiting list about the status of the waitlist? If they are truly so overenrolled I wish they would send a letter saying just what your area admissions counselor told your daughter. In any case, thanks so much for posting this update you got!

Yes, I think they should send a letter saying the class is now filled. Maybe they will go that soon. I know a lot of kids are still clinging to some hope they will get off the waitlist when there likely is none. I think there is a small chance there will be a few spots if they lose a lot to other schools and maybe that's why they aren't notifying people, but they could just say that.

There's an entry about the wait list posted today.

Oberlin - Obie Blogs

I received this email ... I guess it's over now for international applicants :-(

"We have now come to the close of Oberlin’s admissions cycle. Thank you for your patience as we worked through this process. We have met our enrollment target, and I am sorry to tell you that the international wait list is now disbanded; we will not be admitting any additional students for 2008-2009."

Has anyone else heard anything?

Yes-- my S got a letter today reiterating that the class is oversubscribed but asking if he still wants to remain on the waitlist in case any spots should become available. In other words: more of the same.

I got that too. Is he going to remain on the waitlist? If you don't mind me asking, what college did he send his deposit to?

I don't want to invade his privacy too much but it's a LAC in the Northeast-- similar size to Oberlin but no conservatory. He is going to remain on the waitlist-- despite having already registered for courses at his enrolled school.
