My D got waitlisted today. The letter invited her to supplement her app with any information which might affect the decision. Does anyone have any idea of what percentage of waitlisted students have gotten in in the past. She really had wanted to attend and we had planned a trip to visit, but now I don't know. The cost of the trip would be considerable if there is little chance.

Just looked up Oberlin's Common Data Set statistics for you. Last year 791 were offered a place on the waiting list, of whom 274 accepted a place on the list, 63 of whom were eventually accepted. So it looks as though, if she's seriously interested, your daughter would have a roughly 25% chance of getting in. Worth a shot, I think.

My son was also waitlisted. However, I don't think he will take a place on the list, as he does have some other good options (although Oberlin was pretty high on his list...) and does not want the decision-making to drag out that long.

Say, can you tell me the source of your information concerning the wait list percentages of Oberlin? I have here a page from the Best 335 Colleges telling me that 410 accepted a place on the wait list and that only 7% were admitted.
