I got Spring admission (ugh) with Waitlist status. I was surprised, but I did apply last minute. Did anyone else get this?

BUMP. I feel like the only waitlisted person. lol

Did they offer you the opportunity to begin at a branch campus?

Nope, just gave me spring admission and put me on waitlist for fall. I hope it's a small waitlist...

I think that Pitt usually has openings at branch campuses up until the last minute. Did you request alternate assignment at a branch campus (Johnstown, Bradford, Titusville or Greensburg)? If not, maybe you could still do that. They won't offer it to you if you did not request it.

Another option might be to take classes in the evening through the College of General Studies.
Admissions and Apply Now

Finally, if all else fails, take classes at your local community college in the fall while you are waiting for spring admission. The basic classes will probably all transfer and you won't be too far behind schedule.

Does anyone have any experience with the waitlist? Or know someone who knows someone that's on it...?

I'm on it.

If you don't mind me asking, are you accepted into spring, do you really want to go, etc?

americanbeauty, I think you will get into Pitt. The freshman class is very large, about 4,000 kids. And some of them deposit at Pitt (to reserve housing space) while they're waiting for financial aid at other schools to come in. So have hope! You will see movement soon. And at least you got spring admission! You can do something else in the fall while you're waiting. Pitt's spring session starts very early, so you wouldn't even have to wait long. I know it's not how you imagined things would go, but you can make it work.

aww thanks lurkness. i'm trying to be positive, and i have a good feeling about fall admission. i'm SO glad the waitlist at Pitt is not like the waitlist at Harvard or even JMU.

Americanbeauty23- My daughter will be a junior and was on the waitlist for the spring semester two years ago. She did not make it off the waitlist for the fall, but her SATs were weak. Pitt has such a great reputation and she decided, although she was admitted to many other colleges (with money, too), she wanted to stay on the waitlist with guaranteed enrollment for the spring. She took a full load of classes at a local college received good grades (As). BTW, all the courses count towards the degree, just not the grades. She has done really well at Pitt and I was so pleased that they took a chance on a student with lower SATs and great grades and amazing leadership skills. I think it is a little hard starting in the winter. I wish they would let the spring admits, go to the beginning orientation events with the other students, it was difficult to get use to the school when groups had been formed. That being said...she loves it, loves her friends, and is currently studying abroad. So, good luck. Keep us posted.

I'm happy she did well, joyride! I'm curious what her SATs were. Mine is 1760 SAT, 27 ACT.

She definitely deserved to go for fall, but it seemed like it all worked out well :) Thanks!

Americanbeauty23- She had a 600 Critical Reading and Writing, and a 450 in math. It is was great that they took her major into account and saw that Math didn't play a big role. She still had to take two semesters of Math. What is great, is that she got a C+ in one section and B+ in the other math class at Pitt. She made Honor Roll last semester. Pitt is viewed as very prestigious across the country (people from PA don't always realize that) and I believe it was worth the wait. I don't know what other options/choices you have, but Pitt is one of the schools where it's all there; however, it may be up to you to create the experience you are looking for. My daughter did that, and felt very supported by the faculty.

This whole experience has made me want to go to Pitt even more!
