Waitlist?

This morning, I checked my PSU decision online, hoping I wouldn't see "Your decision will be available as soon as one is made." line, and logged in to find that I was not granted admission to U Park and I was to be placed on a wait list for further review. It also said that if I chose not to wait until the June 5th reply date, they would "immediately offer admission to an alternate campus." So, at this point, I was fuming, and pretty disappointed in myself..

But then, I tried to do a little bit of research and came upon a website about wait lists in general, and what to do if you are placed on one. The link is below. It gave pretty negative feedback about the wait list process, basically said to forget about that school. It then offered some statistics about various schools.

"Penn State University, University Park
Number waitlisted: 1,828
Number who accepted a place on waitlist: 1,704
Number admitted from waitlist: 1,356
Percentage admitted from waitlist: 80%"

This gave me some hope for getting in. I also read a few articles about getting wait listed and they do advise that you write the admissions office a letter expressing your sincere interest in attending the school. What do you think? Do you think it's wise to tap into the resources of admissions to get yourself in, or will they take me for a pest? Tell me if you've had any experience with Penn State U Park's waitlist.. I'd like to hear what everyone has to say.

Do's and Don'ts of College Waitlists

I think that this is an interesting subject… I guess most people don’t understand much about the waitlist process, and even that Penn State uses one. I think based on the numbers that you have a great chance. Penn State releases their statistical data each year regarding budgets and hard numbers. Last year, they showed an almost 97% acceptance rate from the waitlist. I think having an economy like this definitely helps your chances as people are deciding PSU is too expensive. Good Luck to you!

Discussions of waitlisting are usually more pertinent to smaller schools, but I think the “Do’s and Don’ts” are reasonable. (It’s just in the last few years that PSU has started to use a waitlist.) Re: the economy, another way to look at that is perhaps students who in other years would have gone to private schools will be considering Penn State.

Bump. C’mon I need other opinions!

Hey J.T.92

I’m in the same situation as you, I was also placed on the waitlist. What have you done so far in order to get yourself admitted? So far I have sent in a letter reinstating my interest and letting them know about my recent accomplishments. Let me know if you hear anything back from the school. It’s comforting to see someone else in a similar situation.

Thanks for your help.

AReverri12, have you heard back yet?

Just heard back on tuesday, I got in :)

congrats!! what are your stats?
