Waitlist?

W&M Admission, I was wondering if all those accepted by the waitlist have been notified yet? My friend just got accepted and I still haven’t heard anything.

deerpark, the transfer waitlist is essentially closed. We do not anticipate admitting any additional transfers.

At this point we are not admitting any additional freshmen but we have yet to close that waitlist. We are still working through some numbers there and may admit additional students in June and/or July.

Both groups received an email and mailed communication this week explaining our current stance and allowing anyone still interested to communicate an intent to remain on the waitlist through August.

I received the letter allowing me to stay on the waitlist. Does everyone not admitted get one of those letters or just a few (as in there were people flat out rejected from the waitlist). Thank you so much for answering all of my questions W&M Admission! You have really been great.

deerpark, everyone on the waitlist got an identical letter so anyone can tell us whether or not they remain interested in being considered should any additional spaces become available. No one is “rejected” from the waitlist. There will simply come a time when we close the waitlist and admit no additional students.

Since the letter a couple of weeks ago, has anyone been taken off the waitlist and how many chose to remain on the waitlist?
Why did William and Mary decide to keep so many on the waitlist?
Thanks

Not sure we’ve done a count of how many students elected to remain on the waitlist post June 15. Since that time, a handful of additional students have been offered admission and we’re awaiting their responses to see if any more students will receive offers.

W&M keeps a waitlist, as do most colleges and universities, to allow themselves the opportunity to fill their class appropriately should those who originally received offers not respond in high enough numbers. W&M’s waitlist is generally not terribly smaller or larger than many other selective schools. There are so many competitive students in our pool who cannot be admitted but who do not deserve a deny letter and we often feel that waitlist is the most appropriate decision in that case.

hey guys i was offered admission off of the waitlist (the extended one) and could not accept due to financial issues, so this may open up a spot for someone (:
i really wish i could have accepted but hopefully someone who really wants to go/can go can take this spot now. don’t give up hope yet, i was SO surprised when they offered me a spot. i had given up on waitlists. best of luck!

In the last week we have admitted a few additional students off of the “extended waitlist”. We are doing our best to bring this process to a close for everyone involved but the class is always in flux so we continue to admit students as necessary.
