so i got a call today informing me that i was accepted to gwu...
sooo i need help on whether i should go there or not!

i'm currently headed to the university of miami (fl) next year
~it's only about an hour from my house and that's fine with me.. i don't know if i'm ready to be far away from home yet

~they're giving me $20,000 a year in merit aid.. my family doesn't need financial aid but obviously this is still a good thing

if i had gotten into gwu initially i'm sure i would have gone there but now i don't know. can anyone please help me decide?

What are you thinking of majoring in? When do you have to make a decision?

i'm majoring in chemistry and going the pre-med path.
i don't know exactly when i need to make the decision by, but i'm sure it has to be soon. i'm 95% sure that i'm going to miami though, so hopefully someone else who wants to go will get my spot from the waitlist!

I'm having the same problem actually. I was to attend UCSD but just got off the wait list, I don't know what financial aid i will be getting yet which will play a big role in my decision. But I was wondering if GW is a place where it is okay to be if I am still not entirely sure of what I want to do yet. I was admitted to Elliot's, but I am still not entirely sure what I want. Just wondering if anyone had any advice.

I was admitted off the wait list last year. FAFSA estimated my yearly family contribution at $45,000. GW gave me a 4k grant and a 4k loan.

Do you know if they try to match the expected family contribution? Cause mine is $11,000 and yeah haha. Seeing as the school is expensive I need help to go there and I really do want to go there. :

I do not know for certain, but based on my experience and what I have heard, this is what I believe they do. GW's cost is subtracted by FAFSA's expected family contribution, and then they try to get as close as possible to the remaining cost.

So if your EFC is 11k, they will likely offer you an assortment of grants and loans totalling around 50k. But I would contact them to get a better idea.

Also, GW only seems to look at the EFC. If you think you can pay 11k, and FAFSA gives you an EFC of 40k, you will get 20k worth of aid rather than 50k.
