Waitlisted at Choate as a PG applicant

Hello, I just got my decision back from Choate and I was waitlisted. I’m applying for a PG year. Does Choate usually take anyone off of the waitlist? Does the fact that I’m applying for a PG year change anything about the odds that I’ll be pulled off? What should I do next?

Thanks in advance.

What sport?

None.

The PG spots at many schools are limited to only a handful of students. However there might be significant movement off the waitlist over the summer. I would wait a couple of weeks and then contact the admissions offices at other schools to see if they might consider a late applicant for PG spot.

Thanks sgopal2. I’m finding out now that I also got waitlisted at Andover, so I guess my questions apply there as well. Does Andover ever pull people off the waitlist though?

Rarely.

Is the Choate waitlist any better?

Nope

There’s a whole thread about this, you know:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/1300302-the-wait-list-p1.html

From the first post in that thread:

“In conclusion, do not count on being accepted off of a wait list.”

That said, I have heard of it happening…but in very rare instances…

It’s possible, but as SevenDad said, don’t count on it. Make sure you update admissions with any new accomplishments (and even consider sending a first-choice email to Choate/Andover). If you’ve communicated with anyone at Choate who might pull for you, explain your situation. In my experience, the most probable way to get in off the wait list is to have someone (Teacher? Coach?) pull for you.
