Emailing Choate

Throughout the admissions process, I have been facing trouble contacting my interviewers from Choate and Andover. However, I have received emails from other people at Andover but never Choate. I have emailed Choate multiple times trying to contact their teachers but I have never gotten a response. The only time I was able to communicate with someone from Choate was when the orchestra teacher emailed me first. Why is this happening? How can I contact Choate?

It’s best to go through the admissions office to be placed in contact with teachers and coaches. Many schools have been on spring break and most are gone for 2 weeks, so you will likely have to wait until next week or the week after to get in touch with the admissions offices. Choate is back in session next week.

You were waitlisted from Choate. So what exactly is it that you want them to say to you in an email? Regardless, you need to wait for admissions to respond; don’t send unsolicited emails to teachers; that’s not their job to respond to spam emails.

@ilovepeppapig, I know this is not what you want to hear, but I think it is very inappropriate to be trying to email teachers at a school you were waitlisted at. If you were on the coaches recruited athlete list–that would make a little more sense, but I still think that would be in the grey zone, if you were a sought after musician or artist from the arts department that would make a little more sense–but again, it would still be in the grey zone. However, there is no reason for teachers to be reaching out to applicants after the admissions decisions have been released–especially to students who were not accepted. If your goal is to get more information as to why you were waitlisted and you are hoping to have someone advocate for you I would advise that, IMO, all you are doing by continuously bombarding them with emails is lowering your (already minute) chances of being accepted off of the waitlist. But again, that is just my opinion, I would, however, look at other options that are available to you (contacting admissions at choate, looking at other schools, etc.).

@CC4life I was waitlisted and I accepted a spot on the waitlist. However, I do want to be taken off and I do not know how.

@ilovepeppapig You don’t decide if you’re taken off the waitlist or not. Admissions do. From what I’ve read on CC, those chances are very slim. If you’ve emailed that you still have a lot of interest in Choate, you’ve pretty much done all that you can do. I can imagine that it’s hard to be in the limbo of waiting, but that’s your only option.

@ilovepeppapig everyone who accepted a spot on the waitlist wants to be taken off it (or else they wouldn’t have accepted a spot in the first place), however, there is only so much you can do to be accepted as the biggest/only reason people get taken off the waitlist is due to institutional needs. For example, if there are not enough 11th graders who accepted a spot at Choate, but the other grades are filled they will only look at the 11th grade waitlist. This will have absolutely no impact on those who applied to other grades. If you have emailed the admissions office then you have done everything you can to be taken off the waitlist. The ONLY THING that emailing teachers could possibly due for your application is hurt it as they will only see it as inappropriate and crossing the line. I understand how frustrating this is but we just have to understand that getting off the waitlist is, to some extent, just pure luck.

The OP could be suggesting that they want to be taken off the WL for the reason of not being considered at Choate anymore…not sure if this is what they mean. If it is, you can email the AO and notify them to take your name off of the WL for further consideration but you will likely not receive a response.

@buuzn03 I believe that the OP would like to get off the waitlist at choate meaning that they would like to be accepted to the school.

@ilovepeppapig Students and teachers were on spring break from March 1st till yesterday, which is why you have not been receiving any responses. That being said, the more appropriate route to eliciting the outcome that you want would be to send a letter, ONE letter, to the admissions office detailing the reasons why you would like to attend choate. After that, it is simply a matter of waiting. As @skieurope and @CC4life have already stated, it would not look on your behalf to bombard teachers and the admissions office. Best of luck and let me know if you have any questions!

^I truly didnt think they wanted to be removed from the WLto no longer be considered but it wasn’t made clear…and I just wanted to be sure thstcside was covered.

@buuzn03 that’s fair lol

Hi, I’m also waitlisted. Just wanted to ask where exactly I should send updated/supplementary info for my application since I couldn’t find the admissions email anywhere. I’ve emailed my interviewer to ask when, where, and how I should submit the info, but got no response (I didn’t get a response from her before the decisions came out either). Does anyone know the email address of the admissions office?

@Penguins75 I wanted to know how to like show that I am not interested in the school anymore. I want to be taken off the waitlist as to not be on it anymore or accepted.

I wouldn’t worry about it. On the off chance that you’re accepted you can always turn the offer down.

@ilovepeppapig hi! in that case, you could always contact the admissions office in an email stating that you would no longer like a spot on the waitlist. Or, you could do as @austinmshauri stated, which is turn down their offer on the off chance that you are accepted.
