A couple days back, I was rejected by BU. Today, I found out I was waitlisted at CWRU. Is it due to showing lack of interest on my application? The same thing happened with my SMU app-I was waitlisted. My stats are good enough for the school, but once again, are these schools big on interest or something?

Case is big on interest, and this year they seem to have waitlisted a lot of “overqualified” applicants as well.

This seems to be happening a lot this year…maybe because I’m the one applying, so I notice that. Does stuff like this happen every year at these universities? (that might be a dumb question…)

As far as I know, Case doesn’t look at interest, or it’s not a big deal. D applied EA back in November, and unless we saw them at a college fair two years ago, I don’t recall her ever being in contact with them. They begged her to apply, gave her an extra two days, but that was it. She was accepted EA, but unless she was on some “recruit” list, they just took her application and let her in.

OTOH, I think both Case and BU have gotten a huge surge in applications over the past few years. They were once sure things for many students, but if you were basing your match on old stats, those stats may no longer be relevant.

“Level of applicant’s interest” is “important” at CWRU, according to <a href=“Case Western Reserve University Acceptance Rate | CollegeData”>http://www.collegedata.com/cs/data/college/college_pg02_tmpl.jhtml?schoolId=966 .

Then I stand corrected, but all that was required to get the checkmark was a contact at a college fair sophomore year. But applying EA might count for something as well.

Congrats to your daughter for getting in! :)

Late to the party but same thing happened to me, rejected from BU and wait listed at Case Western. I think CWRU is getting bigger on interest. Seeing as the application fee is always $0, they don’t want people that randomly applied to be accepted.

CWRU has historically gone to their waitlist- so hang in there. My daughter applied EA and was accepted. All we did was go to one info session. No other interest. Same with BU and she was accepted there RD. Her scores and background were OK but not super. I think she got into CWRU because she is not an engineering or science major and so it adds to their “diversity”. Her acceptance rate on EA schools was much better than RD which seems a little opposite of what we would have expected.
