Waitlisted at Georgia Tech - College of Engineering

Hey guys,
I got waitlisted at Georgia Tech and I was wondering if there was some way to show my continued interest in the school?

Is there anything I can do right now other than wait hopelessly and go to a school I really don’t want to go to?
Any advice is much appreciated, thanks.

It says on their website not to send any additional documents so I’d assume no

@‌Dhruv97

What about sending them a letter or an email stating that you are really interested in attending Georgia Tech?
Would that be acceptable?

Would they prefer a letter or an email?

I don’t think it hurts to email your admission counselor and express how interested you are in the school. I doubt there’s much they’ll do but if I were you I would at least try. Good luck to you!

@snl2014 Thank you so much :slight_smile:

We just opened up a spot for someone in engineering by rejecting their offer of admission. Good luck to you all!

@austintxmother wait what. Seriously!?

Fingers crossed!

@derprage Yes, out of state tuition for Tech is expensive and they didn’t offer us a good enough financial aid package. We had to wait to see the numbers before rejecting the offer and did not want to take away a spot from a person on the waitlist. Good luck to you!

@austintxmother !!! You are the best :slight_smile:

Thank you so much omg

@derprage do you know where you are on the waitlist? Could you call them to find out?

@austintxmother They say they don’t rank the wait list. So I don’t think that’s possible :\

OK, that’s too bad!

@austintxmother I know right? If only things were simpler. sigh

@Derprage it sounds like Georgia Tech is a good match for you. Now you need to get aggressive…it might not work but you will know that you gave it your all. 177 people were pulled off the waitlist last year…write a letter to them (be sure to note your birth date…this helps them look up your name) telling them why you’re still interested…if you can scrounge up any new information/honors/ etc do it…just try.

@SouthernHope‌ It says on their waitlist FAQ that you aren’t allowed to send in any more things in…

Question: Can students on the wait list submit additional information?
Answer: Only information originally submitted with your application will be considered.

@derprage‌ What school did you apply to? College of Engineering?

I hear you ,@CollegePlease123 …but i think a carefully reasoned & short note…that outlines not how much you want to attend the school (why do they care) but what you will bring the college is always welcomed. What are they going to do? Not pull him off the list because he sent a thoughtful, targeted note? :slight_smile:

@SouthernHope Failure to follow explicit instructions sounds to me like a great way to be moved to the bottom of the pile. Through their statement, GT has communicated up front that it is definitely NOT welcomed.

@sltxdad Yes sending in new information is definitely a bad idea.

I don’t think it would detrimentally affect anyone’s chance, it just won’t matter and at worst, they might get annoyed and develop some sort of subconscious hatred for you.

@collegeplease123 Just realized that Computer Science is a part of College of Computing. Oh well :expressionless:
