Waitlisted at WUSTL, still have shot at other good schools?

So I was waitlisted today by WUSTL and I was wondering if this means I am not qualified for the other prestigious schools Ivies, Stanford, etc). Would this be the case?

Hi! I was also waitlisted, so I understand where you’re coming from.

I don’t think this means you’re out of the running; just because WUSTL didn’t see you as a fit does not mean the other schools will not. Stay positive and good luck!

I’ve gotten denied from WUSTL. Just because a school doesn’t see you as part of their school, that doesn’t mean that other schools such as the Ivies won’t see it as well.

There’s a vast majority of people who do get rejected/waitlisted from one prestigious school, but accepted into others.

I’m in the same situation, bump

Lol. You guys are taking this wait list way too seriously.

First of all, I would like to say that I also got waitlisted at WUSTL and am applying to similar colleges, OP.

WUSTL waitlist a lot of high-stats applicants, because WUSTL knows that these applicants will get accepted to top caliber schools and in the end, these applicants will not matriculate to WUSTL. Demonstrated interest in WUSTL is huge. WUSTL has a 33% yield rate, which means that 1/3 of the admitted students actually enroll in the college. By waitlisting students such as us, WUSTL will protect that yield rate. If you really want to go to WUSTL, make it clear to the admissions office at WUSTL that you will enroll if accepted. If not, then, don’t read too much into this decision. Fit is also a factor, so don’t forget about that.

Did I miss anything?

WUSTL is (just about) at the same level as ivies. As long as you are passionate w/ great scores and grades, you have as good a shot as anyone.

There was a kid a couple years ago on a NYTimes blog who got rejected at WUSTL and accepted at Yale.

I would also like to say that this Waitlist is flattering. It almost as if WUSTL is telling me that I deserve a better college. Again, this is just my opinion.

You people on here are reading way too far into this. WUSTL accepts the students they want, the fact that their yield rate is 34% shows that they are accepting some of the best and brightest not the so-called “tier 2” students. WUSTL is a top school and they typically have a lot of cross admits at the top private universities, but not being admitted is not a bad sign (not a good sign either) just the way the game works.

Son was wait listed at WUSTL, frankly, we all kind of laughed about it. He has gotten into UNC-chapel hill, NC state (Parks scholarship),Northeastern (NMF scholarship),University of Richmond, turned down the Oldham scholarship there to attend UGA (chosen as a Foundation Fellow) Just to name a few. I think maybe because he never went to campus, although he did interview. I also think the need for aid has a lot to do with it. If you are not a URM and are requesting aid, they throw you at the bottom, which is fine, since the school ended up not being a great fit anyways. I think making kids wait till June to pull them off the waitlist is crazy, and I would never give a school that kind of control over my life. But that’s just my opinion Good luck to all of you, I hope you all end up getting into whatever school you want! Just remember, don’t obsess too much over the name. : )

Yeah I got waitlisted too…like Hawkace said, don’t worry too much about it, they have a history of waitlisting more than qualified candidates. The only demonstrated interest I showed was signing up for their email list lmao…and they are the only high ranking school (outside of maybe UChicago) who actually cares about demonstrated interest for w/e reason.

This is actually a good sign! The fact that you were waitlisted makes me think that you a higher caliber student than they would expect to enroll and they therefore waitlisted you as a way to protect yield WUSTL is famous for this

My son was waitlisted at WUSTL but got a likely letter from Dartmouth! Go figure! But it does answer your question that the result here has no bearing on any other results, even Ivies!

I am in the same exact situation as you! I was freaking out because I thought that if WASHU didn’t want me then my other top tier schools won’t either, but after reading this I feel a lot better. Maybe it just wasn’t meant to be. Good luck for your other schools and thanks for starting this, I feel a lot better!!

I just got waitlisted, and it’s really really disappointing- but I’m international and applied for aid, which probably lowered my chances by a lot! Oh well, good for everyone who got accepted, and waitlisted people, let’s keep our heads up high, the Ivy League remains (crosses fingers).

I know someone who got into Yale EA and got waitlisted at WUSTL. Keep your hopes up!

Lol. One of my friends was waitlisted, but got into Harvard SCEA.

Even though, I was accepted. I would not hold the admissions of one school in regard to another. Like, just because Ii got into WashU doesn’t mean I’ll get into CalTech or something, so just keep your head up!

I know someone who was accepted to WashU and also received the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship and a Yale likely letter so I would not say that getting waitlisted means you are a higher caliber applicant

@ang331‌ Caltech! Thats my dream school!
