Have you been accepted to any other colleges, or are you still waiting?

i got into BC

My daughter put down everywhere she applied and got accepted. She received a good scholarship. she is very happy there. I dont think there is a rhyme or reason. but all in all it usually works out for the best.

I listed Brown, Princeton and Harvard and got in, so I don’t really know.

Haha, maybe GW knows that I won’t get into any of those places, so it’s not worried.

sisu92, haha. That’s probly why I got in too. Cant remember if I listed any other schools… I think I was vague.

thenatural - same thing happened to me. i had 3.8 gpa and over 2300 on sats. i listed the multiple ivies i was also applying to on my application and then got waitlisted. the annoying part was i actually did really want to go to gw because my major is political science. anyways, my guidance counselor called and told them it was my top choice, i got a call from admissions the next day saying they wanted to offer me a spot. so basically it is clearly a case of protecting their yield. im here now and love it. so if you want to go here, write a letter to admissions expressing that or have your guidance counselor call. if you don’t want to go to gw, don’t worry about it bc it does not mean anything for your chances at other schools.

this is clearly case of them protecting their yield. A kid I know who got 2400, 4.0 with interesting EC got flat out rejected by his ultra safety school while he was accepted by top 10 schools. Meanwhile, another school which was in the same ranking range offered him $50K/year scholarship. The first school was merely protecting their yield. the second one tried to lure him with $$$. Different approach, but same motivation.

you guys have any tips for the waitlist letter? i think i’m going to have a paragraph about doing well in my challenging APs, taking on new leadership in ECs etc;, and a paragraph about why GW is the school for me. i dont know which should come first though.

also im not sure if i should say “While I was extremely dissapointed at not being accepted, it is an honor that I am still being considered, and I remain deteremined to get into GW” or something like that

I’m a parent, not a student, but will toss in my 2 cents–
Early in the thread you mentioned that you wrote in your essay how much you loved DC. When we were at an information session at American last fall, the young woman giving the presentation said that was the one essay topic they heard entirely too often. They already know that students love DC. They want to know that you love THEIR SCHOOL, not just it’s location. They need to know that you’ve done your research, that you know what they have to offer, and what you have to offer them. I would keep the letter brief but sincere, and as you said, add anything you’ve have accomplished since you first applied. Also, as another poster mentioned, if GW is truly your top choice (is it?) then perhaps your GC might go to bat for you. Good luck.

Here is a my question, from an outside perspective based on what I read…Did you guys (those who got rejected) even consider going to GW, as in was GW even one of your top 3 choices?..bc it seems to me that a lot of people on here are complaining or questioning why they were waitlisted or denied from GW, yet most end their complaint with “idc anyway, i didnt even wanna go here”…or …“i got into upenn so thats where i wanted to go anyway” … those are the reasons why GW gave out those decsions. i work within the admissions office here and i cannot stress enough that if u really wanna go here, show INTEREST…many people then say well how do i show interesst without applying ED bc i dont wanna risk having to pay soo much $…u can still show interest without doing ED…visit, do an interview, speak to ur admissions rep about how much u want to come here and explain why u couldnt do ED…idk, thats jus the way ive been seeing things on here

im not saying that what i said has always been the case, granted, some RD people got waitlisted or denied that truly wanted to be here…but im sorry, a majority of you people always ended up saying that GW wasnt ur top choice anyway, which proves my point, and the point of the admissions people who read ur app

…just my opinion

first of all, and i’m sure you’ve heard this, college is a crapshoot. some schools will accept you and others will reject you for no reason at all.
here’s what i can tell you though:
this year, GW’s admissions rates went way down. their applicants went from about 18,000 to over 21,000 which allowed them to be WAY more selective. their admissions rates are now much lower then 40% (it was 36 last year anyway). because of this, they have a very exceptional class this year.
also, George Washington has a nationally ranked government program. Their poli sci major is very VERY competitive- it is in DC. Their professors are incredible and their internship opportunities are even better.
This was a bad year for college admissions, i know a lot of people who got in places they shouldn’t have, and a lot more people that didn’t get into schools that they should have.

remember- college is a crapshoot, but you’ll end up where you’re supposed to be.

31.5% this year.

This guy put Princeton and Georgetown on his application! Clearly, he is not smart enough to go to any decent college. No surprise.

And an essay about how much you like D.C. This thread has me laughing my ass off. Some really dumb people are book smart. Did it occur to you that Georgetown is in D.C.? That GW doesn’t want to be the Georgetown safety? Did you think about maybe writing an essay about what you like about GW instead? Good job Einstein.

Funny as this is, I wish you the best. I am sure you will get in somewhere. Did you apply to any other “safties”?

get out of here with all that negativity. you just posted a lot of stuff for somebody who goes to SJU. you really can’t speak on the application process for schools like Georgetown GW Princeton or BC bc u dont know what its like and u dont have what it takes for any of those schools.

SJU is perfectly mediocre though, and i also wish you the best. congrats on the undefeated season a few years ago.

lol … good one …

You apparently don’t have what it takes either. Good luck.
