@bobbypage the waiting is excruciating i’m sure you can agree with me there! Unfortunately for me, to all the schools i applied to in the US I wasn’t accepted anywhere but i got waitlisted at MIT and Dartmouth. MIT didn’t take anyone from the waitlist and i’m still waiting for Dartmouth. What about you?

Hey guys! I received an offer of admission today. First around 3 I got an email and then at 4ish a phone call. I am really excited. Here’s what I did (who knows what helped/hurt… I have no idea how this process works but this is just for informational purposes):

1) sent in the update early april stating that i intended to enroll if admitted
2) sent a handwritten note and photograph that corresponded to my common app essay to the admissions office (early april)
3) sent another letter of rec from my physics teacher who used to work at Dartmouth (early April)
4) Sent an email to my direct admissions officer (May 9th)
5) Sent another short note to the wait list email saying that i was still interested and Dartmouth remained my first choice (May 20th)

Then recieved a call May 24th! Still Can’t believe it! Good luck to everyone!

I sent a letter of continued interest over a month ago. Would you recommend letting them know that I’m still interested? I made it clear that I would definitely attend if accepted so I don’t know if another letter would be superfluous.

"I don’t know if another letter would be superfluous. " Yes it would be. Nothing more to be done in all reality

How long were you given to reply? A week?

I was given until June 3rd. I know that admitted students have until June 1st to inform Dartmouth of deferment plans so that might lead to more wait list activity as well.

@runnerxc: my guidance counselor told me to send a short letter of continued interest around may 20th, because that was when the reply date for the first set of wait list admits was, and it would keep me fresh in their mind for the second “wave” around may 25th. She called and talked to the director of admissions, and he said that students who email every week are doing too much, and often not sending pertinent information. From that info my counselor had advised me to email every two weeks max with short concise updates.

In my opinion (which is based solely on guide books, counselors, and admissions statements- I am just a regular unhooked applicant with no “inside scoop”), I would send reassurance that Dartmouth remained your first choice. Every offer of admission that they send counts toward their yield, and with waitlisted students the try to make the yield as high as possible. Continuing to assure them of your interest and desire to attend cant hurt. I also saw a college counselor for the first time for only one hour the last week in april to help me decide where to deposit to (haha I was really confused/stressed) and she told me that typically what will happen with wait lists is the dean of admissions will say “we have ten more seats to fill, everyone bring me your top five candidates” and then each individual admissions officer will advocate for their five “top” students in their region or application reading section until they collectively agree on ten students to extend admission to. After learning that, I reached out to my direct dartmouth reader via email (which they say on the website not to do). Maybe it helped though? The college counselor was speaking in generalities -she used to work for colgate, so maybe the system is different at dartmouth

I make no assertions that I know how any of this works! Haha this is just what I have gathered from the process (which just generally sucks all around). Good luck to everyone!!!

Question- did anyone here just get a email that said “We have reviewed the candidacies of the remaining active applicants on our waiting list and have made offers to fill the few places that have become available. I’m writing to let you know that you were not among this small group of applicants.”?
Don’t panic at all if you didn’t get it, please! This was sent out three years ago, coincidentally the last year the transfer waitlist was not used (and the year they too around 10 people off the regular waitlist lol), so I’m just making sure that this didn’t jus happen again haha.

Good luck all

So…I just got my email notifying me that I’ve been accepted off the waitlist. I’m in a state of shock right now. I sent in extra recommendations and letters, but assumed I didn’t get in after the first round had passed. Good lord, I just finished my chemistry and calc midterms today at the community college I am attending! My plan was to save a ton of money and transfer to UVA or W&M after a year in CC. I had completely abandoned all my feelings for Dartmouth after I didn’t get in and now they’re coming right back! Decisions, decisions. Congrats to everyone else who got in.

I got my official financial aid package mailed today, waiting on the acceptance letter Monday. I was told that transfer admits start after the end of the regular waitlist, and my FA package was signed the day before Mrnimra got his email. Not sure if this is the end of both waitlists or not.

When you check the waiting list confirmation form online, does anyone else’s page say that “According to our records, you are not an applicant on the waitlist. If you feel that this is in error, please contact the Undergraduate Admissions Office.”? I’ve been checking this page every other day and every time it would show the option of staying on the waitlist and removing myself off the waitlist (everytime i would of course say to stay on the waitlist).
