Waitlisted! Class of 2016

I am actually really happy that I was placed on the WL and not rejected (which is what I thought was going to happen from the start). I would LOVE to go to Dartmouth! Was anyone on CC waitlisted and then accepted? What did you guys do/ any tips? I plan on emailing my rep and saying how committed I am to Dartmouth.

And other WL ppl, what do you guys plan on doing?

I also heard that the Dartmouth WL is small and kids who are waitlisted usually have somewhat of a chance? Please correct me if I'm wrong...

I heard that the adcom gets really annoyed if you email or visit them on campus. They already know that you are committed when you stated that you wish to remain on this list.

It might hurt your chances to email their rep, while not emailing them will not hurt or help you.

I have no idea, but I’m a fellow waitlist as well! It seems kind of fitting to me - my dad was waitlisted as well, and eventually admitted. Good luck!

The thing is, they probably receive a ton of emails from waitlist students. They don’t care anymore. They just toss your email aside and be annoyed to be bothered in this busy time.

Your dad lived in a generation when not many people might have mailed a letter to Dartmouth. Now, with email, Dartmouth gets a lot of students who simply email them with their interests.

I just think being safe is a lot better than taking the chance with annoying them.

Why do I have a feeling that OceanSeal was waitlisted and now wants to get rid of competition? I’ve never heard of schools that tell waitlisted applicants not to email them. To OP and eartheyes, coming from an admitted student, I wish you good luck!

Yes, you are wrong.

Last year 1891 students were wait listed. 1047 students accepted a spot on the wait list. 87 students admitted off of the wait list

@OceanSeal… I never said what I specifically was going to do. You seemed like you were addressing me and my situation, but it was a bit more relevent to the OP.

@OP: I plan on sending my spring semester grades, but that’s it I think.

I was waitlisted as well. Who did you guys sent the email to?

Sartmouth specifically states

im pretty sure we send the email to admissions.processing@dartmouth.edu

There’s an article in The Dartmouth today which states:
“Of the approximately 1,700 students placed on the waitlist, about 1,000 are expected to stay active on the list, Laskaris said. In past years, between 10 and 90 waitlisted students have been admitted, according to Laskaris.”

I accepted the place on the waiting list on March, 30. But now, when I logged in, I found out they are still asking me whether I am going to stay on the waitlist. What does that mean? Does anybody else have this problem? I confirmed it again, but it is really weird.

My page does the same thing. I think they leave the wait list confirmation form up on all candidates’ pages in case anyone decides to drop out of the wait list. If you have already responded to Dartmouth saying you are interested, then you should be fine. At least that’s what I think. Any one else concur?

Hey guys - I’m also waitlisted, and over two weeks ago I sent an e-mail of continued interest (basically including updates I wanted to make on my application) to the admissions.processing address… I haven’t heard anything from Dartmouth ever since, and I really wonder if they have got my e-mail or not… What do you think I should do?

@singitout26; I did the same and never heard any specifics back. Just yesterday, however, I did get a “waitlist confirmation” email.

Yeah, I got that “confirmation” e-mail too, about one-and-a-half week ago. But this still doesn’t say anything about them having received the material or not…

Maybe they simply won’t bother sending confirmations…

How long were your guys’ updates? Did you just note recent accomplishments and activities, or did you actually write a letter? I’m a bit worried that I overdid it, since they only asked for small updates. I sent a full-blown multi-paragraphed letter of continued interest instead…

Anyone hear anything about yield yet?

Yield information was just posted in the school paper… Dartmouth WILL be taking students off the wait list! My D was accepted ED, so we’re rooting for everyone here as well as her good friend.

[TheDartmouth.com: 1,080 students accept offer of admission to Class of 2016, representing 49.5 percent yield](http://thedartmouth.com/2012/05/04/news/yield)

There were only nine more people who accepted the offer of admission than from last year, and since 86 people were admitted off the wait list last year, I’m guessing around 70 to 80 people will be taken off this year…?

Was the number of people on the wait list ever published?
