today i just heard back from indiana university saying I had been waitlisted for an in-person audition (MT). Is this common? What are my chances of actually getting an audition from this?
also on the topic of indiana, what are they looking for? i have a heavy music background, will that help? I was denied from Penn State because I’m not a dancer, but what is Indiana going after?
Wow. That stinks. We got “waitlisted” at BW last year because auditions filled up the day my D applied. If the same happened to you, I would do what we did - call the school. Ask what they think will happen. My guess is they schedule X number of slots and they filled those up already with people who applied early. It’s not a judgement on whether they like you or not.
If the school is within a reasonable distance from your house, you could also contact the school to see if it would be OK to show up the morning of auditions and wait to see if anyone no-shows. With weather and flights, etc - sometimes people just don’t make it.
Indiana is a prescreen school. I am not sure of their process but I think if you are not offered an audition spot you did not pass their prescreen process. I would keep sending those applications and prescreens and check out some of the other great programs out there!!
@kwheel_2019 I would check with IU. Sometimes during the prescreen process, schools fill their audition slots up quickly, so they have to waitlist prescreens that come in later simply because they have no open slots. This is definitely the case at BW. And may be the case at IU as well. Being on the waitlist is great! Much better than getting a, “thanks but we do not want you to audition for us response”. I would just check with IU directly and see what it means to be on the waitlist and when you might anticipate hearing back since you have to go ahead and schedule your other auditions. As far as IU goes, I am sure they will like the fact you have a strong music background.
Are you waitlisted for the first audition date? I would probably contact them. Maybe they’re not any spots for the early date but maybe a later date. Just a thought
@vvnstar I was thinking of shooting them an email, even at the least to show my interest. luckily, my BW audition has just been confirmed today! I was worried it would be too late!
UPDATE: after emailing the department to ask about their waitlist process and tell them my interest in their school, I have been invited for an in person audition!!!
My D was waitlisted for an in-person audition last year and luckily, a slot opened up…so it can happen! (I’ll admit we contacted them once or twice to see if there was any movement on the list also )
