So I just found out that I have been waitlisted to my number one school....UGH! I am a transfer so I was hoping to just get this done and over with. I know that is extreme wishful thinking, but goodness, to just be done with auditions in November would be great!

So my number one concern is how does waitlisting generally work? I was never waitlisted in my first round of auditions so I never found interest in finding out how they worked at the end of the audition process. 1) If there is still room in the program do they generally go to the top of the list and pick from those who were waitlisted first? 2) Or do they re-evalute those on the list and then decide from there who they want to then accept into the school.

Also, if it is option number 1 and they pick from the top of the list, what do you think my chances may be getting into the program? I auditioned at the first audition for the school and was called back into a class of 12 or so. So I would think that if anything I would definitely be one of the very first few on the waitlist if that is the way that they look at things.

Thanks for any help that anyone can give me on this topic :)

Depending on the school, I know many of them will either reject you or waitlist you during the first round of auditions. Obviously if you had a stellar audition (like the top few students from those that first round) then you'll be accepted. They don't want to accept too many at once since they still have a lot more students to see. Once they get through more auditions then they'll make the decision to reject you or accept you into the program.

Like I said, this is only some programs and does not represent all of them.

LovesMT, are you sure you were waitlisted, or were you perhaps deferred? They don't really mean the same thing; it seems early for a college to be waitlisting. Deferred means that they are going to wait to see more applicants before either accepting or rejecting you, as ActressToBe described above. Waitlisting generally refers to a situation where a college has made offers of acceptance for all of the available "slots", and will go to their waitlist if some of these offers are turned down.

sarahlsmom - The school that I heard from was Point Park. Good luck to your D on which ever school it is she is waiting to hear from.

BreatheEasy - I am actually not living at home at the moment, so I got the phone call from my mom and she read me the letter. I can't remember exactly, but I am about 95% positive that she read that I was waitlisted. Which I also thought was very odd for being so early in the year. But the letter said that I will receive further information in March about my wailisted status. Which I also found interesting because I thought that most schools don't have a final roster of accepted students that have decided to come until at least April 1st and sometimes even into May.

LovesMT....you were deferred but PP is using the term waitlisted. In essence it is what BreatheEasy describes. You are deferred until they have seen all applicants before making a decision about you. It is not the same as a waitlist at the end of an admissions cycle when all acceptances have gone out and a waitlist is used if they do not yield enough students who want to enroll. So, being deferred this early is a positive as you are still in the running. They do not wish to fill up all the slots at this early date, but you were not rejected and so that is good so far. Basically, no decision about your admissions has yet to be made.

So it turns out that I was deferred haha. My mom assumed that the two meant the same thing and she told me that they had waitlisted me. Which is what I thought was very odd about the whole thing being so early in the year to be waitlisted. So I guess I will just have to wait and see and bite my nails for a few months now. Keeping my fingers crossed :)

Also, if anyone that may have been at that audition with me or any parents whose children were I need help with a name. I'm trying to figure out who the woman was that did the acting exercises with us in the call back class. She was the most talkative with us all and had dark hair and wore a pink suit I believe. I'm trying to get in contact with her, but it's difficult when I don't know her name and not all the teachers on the website have a picture with their bio. Thanks to anyone who can help me with that!!!
