waitlisted for fall/accepted for spring umiami

I got waitlisted for fall admission to umiami but was accepted there for the spring 2011 semester...do i have a chance of getting in for fall? I hadn't heard of being accepted for spring as an option...anyone else know anything about this?

Some schools are doing this. It’s to fill up the spaces after some fall semester kids drop out. It’s also sometimes done to kids with lower stats, so the school doesn’t have to include those lower stats when reporting the strength of their incoming freshman class.

I personally don’t like it because schools have a lot of fun “ice-breaker” activities the week before school starts in the fall. These fun activities help kids find new friends and form bonds. If you come in the Spring, you may feel like you’re arriving after everyone else has formed friendships.

Where else did you apply? have you received any other acceptances?

What were your stats?

traceymo - I think it is important to consider what you would do in the fall. Does UMiami allow you to take classes? Our state university does some spring admits, and while it does not provide housing for those students, they can take classes at off peak hours and use school facilities, so that they start meeting people and finding their niche. I would speak with UMiami admissions and find out waht you can do on their campus for the fall. If the answer is nothing - then I would look at what you could do elsewhere - would you look for a job? Take courses at a community college? I would consider how much you want to attend this school. As the previous poster said, it’s hard to miss out on the first semester of activities and getting to know people. Would you have on-campus housing for the spring? All things to consider. Good luck.

A friend of my son went through this last year with Rennselaer (RPI). He was accepted for Spring. He did call them and state his case - that RPI was his first choice and kinda gave an updated resume. They did within a week or so accept him for the fall.
