Waitlisted for Fall, accepted for Spring?

I just received my notification from Pepperdine. I applied for the Fall 2013 semester and was told that I was wait listed for Fall but guaranteed admission for Spring. Has this happened to anyone else? Does the fact that I was technically accepted bode well for getting in for Fall 2013 rather than Spring 2014? Thanks.

The same thing happened to me, and I was wondering about that too. I hope that it means we have a good chance of being taken for Fall. Regardless, I’m so happy that I was accepted for Spring! It’s a dream come true, even if I have to wait a couple more months to go. ;)

Hey fji727! Nice to see someone is on the same boat as me! If you don’t mind me asking, what do you plan on doing for the Fall 2013 semester? On one hand, I don’t want to be a semester behind everyone else, but on the other, I can’t afford to pay for a semester at one university and then complete the rest at Pepperdine… We’re in an awkward situation lol. But I do agree with you – it’s a dream come true!!

PS: I read online that this method of acceptance is becoming more and more popular in high ranking schools. When they have very competitive applicant pools and find it difficult to cut the short list down any further, they take some applicants and admit them for Spring instead of Fall so that they can, quite frankly, ‘reserve them for later.’ I’m trying to stay optimistic though, because I feel that the fact we were admitted means that Pepperdine wants us, it’s just a matter of finding the space for Fall 2013 :)

Hi computasaysnoo!

I don’t mind you asking at all. I was literally just discussing with my mom what I should do for that semester. We’re thinking of sending me to a JC for Fall 2013, then going to Pepperdine from there. It’s a bit more cost friendly than going to a whole other University for a semester and it’ll still allow me to get the credits I need to stay up to speed with the rest of our class.

I agree with you completely. I’m really so excited about this Spring 2014 acceptance, it’s a huge compliment! I never in a million years thought I’d get in, I was crying all day yesterday because I was so happy! Like you said, it’s nice to know that there is someone else in the same boat. :)

Hi computasaysnoo and fji727!

I was also accepted for Spring and waitlisted for Fall. One question I have though is whether or not we need to press anything on Wavenet or a reply for Pepperdine to consider us for being waitlisted for Fall, or are we automatically considered without doing anything?

I hope you understand what I am trying to say!

Hi mintchocochippy!

I totally understand what you are asking and I was wondering that too! I’m assuming that we’re already being considered because there were no further instructions asking us to accept a place on the waitlist or not. I’m going to wait for the hardcopy of the acceptance to come in the mail in the next day or so and see if there’s any instructions there. If there isn’t, I may shoot the admissions office an email. Let me know if you find out any info! :D

That totally makes sense.
and Yes, I will let you know if I find out anything. Can you do the same also? :)

I have a daughter who was spring deferred, not wait listed. Are any of you in the same situation?

mintchocochippy: Yes, I will absolutely let you know if I hear anything more. :)

Hi mamawilk! I am Spring deferred as well (in addition to being waitlisted), so theoretically we are in the same boat. :)

First of all, congratulations on your Spring acceptance, everyone!

I’m a freshman at Pepperdine this year, and I was admitted for Fall 2012. That being said, I know quite a few freshmen who started this Spring and still had a good experience. Most of them started their GE studies, either at a local community college or at another university, and transferred their credits to Pepperdine later. You probably could take the semester off instead if you aren’t worried about graduating in time.

This was a super competitive year for admission, and a lot of students were waitlisted. You probably won’t have a great chance of getting in for the Fall, but Spring admission is still a great option. Best of luck to everybody!

nkayy,

Do you think it Pepperdine is worth it to wait for the Spring? I got accepted to several other universities and they accepted me for the fall 2013. I don’t know if Pepperdine is really worth it to wait 1 whole semester.

Which other universities did you get into?

goinghamburger,
I got into Santa Clara University and LMU for the Fall 2013 and I think they are all pretty much academically equal.

mintchocochippy,

What are you planning on majoring in? They’re all great schools, but that could make a major difference in what you’re picking. If you do decide to attend Pepperdine you could always attend a JC or do a semester at Santa Clara or LMU to get some GEs out of the way.

Fji727,
I plan to pursue something relating to business, whether it is finance, economics, entrepreneurship, marketing, etc. Majors like those. Its quite difficult because I have to choose between Santa Clara who has the support of Silicon Valley, or Peperdine and LMU who has downtown LA! And Silicon Valley is the upcoming place for businesses, especially tech.

Hi everyone!! :)))

I also was garunteed admission for Spring 2014 and am wait listed at Pepperdine for the fall! I am really close to making my decision but I am so glad I found this site with other Spring admitted students as well!! I wish the best of luck to everyone and honestly this has been such a tough choice getting into other schools for fall, but I am still so blessed and shocked to have even gotten into Pepperdine at all and I think I’m going to wait until Spring! Let me know if anyone else is going to wait it out and go to Pepperdine for spring! However still hoping for the slight chance of getting in for Fall!!!

mintchocochippy,

Based on my experience, I’d say that Pepperdine is DEFINITELY worth waiting for. If you come in having visited the school and learning about the various things you can get involved in, you’ll have no problem fitting in.

nkayyy,

are you a student at Pepperdine yourself?
I am thinking of submitting my deposit today for the Spring 2014 semester, but just wanting to make sure it is the right decision. I am extremely grateful for even getting in for Spring, I just want to make sure this is a school worth waiting for.

im an undergrad at pepperdine writing an article for the graphic about the freshman spring deferral admission and was wondering if anyone would be willing to answer a few questions about their experience?

Hello! I applied to Pepperdine and I am so anxious to hear of their admissions decision. Can you guys please let me know of your stats so that I can know where I stand? Pepperdine is my absolute first choice and I’m trying to figure out if I am an eligible candidate. I The made a post about my credentials also if you want to go look. Thank you!!
