Waitlisted? I bet all the students accepted are all of Harvard -calibre.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you know that you shouldn’t be worried if you are waitlisted. I got deferred in January and just got accepted today. My test scores are mediocre (30 ACT), and grades just as much so. I just showed a lot of interest. If you write your councilors saying you still want to go, I’m sure it will help your chances :)

laure-

Firstly, congrats on the acceptance. However, statistically you were more in range for Washu than HYPS. Thus, WashU prbly didnt think you get into an Ivy as easily as others…thus youd be someone who would easily marticulate.

I am a val with 2340 whose in at Dartmouth and got a full ride to Vandy…I think I was waitlisted (my account is currently locked =/). Im rdy for HYPS this month!

I wasn’t condemning WUSTL…

It’s just that people who got waitlisted seem so much more qualified than I am
and again, I didn’t even show any interest in WUSTL while other waitlisted & overqualified applicants did by doing interviews and stuff

…Anyways, WUSTL is my last choice so I probably won’t be attending

Mm, not everyone who had good stats or supposedly “overqualified” were waitlisted though. I did see in the RD Decision Thread a couple of people with amazing apps who were accepted instead waitlisted.

I definitely agree with everything vbball90 has said. I’ve been hearing from a lot of the “oh but it’s because Wash U has a weird acceptance policy” from those who’ve been waitlisted (not here necessarily, more from people whom I know personally), and it’s really disconcerting. Wash U is one of the top schools in the country; while they do place importance on showing interest as many schools do, it’s not the only criterion that separates someone who is waitlisted from someone who is accepted. It’s unfair that some people may think I and others just got in because we showed more interest than people who didn’t.

Tainted: Again, I dont know my admissions decision till tomorrow. So, I am still an unbiased person. However, Washu is ABSOLUTELY known to Tuft overqualified applicants. Calico was another person who was tufted because he was overqualified for Washu. In reality, its spot on US News and World Report is inflated GREATLY because of its own crazy rejection of HYPS kids using the school as a safety.

you guys really make me feel bad that I am admitted. :frowning: my safety’s Lehigh and Lafayette college.:(

Laure327-
I just looked at your stats and you have much to be proud of. You will probably be an exceptional architect. For what you are interested in doing your stats are perfect. You took the trouble to submit a portfolio - so that is showing interest. You are also humble - which seems to be one of the nicest aspects of the Wash U student Body. Anyway, I don’t think interest is as big a factor as others do!

Wow, some of you people are really starting to get touchy. Let’s just leave it at a cliche “good luck to those waitlisted–you’ll end up at a great school whether or not it’s WashU.”

What do you mean you got a “likely” from Columbia? I applied there too and I just wasnt sure what you meant.

Also does WashU only accept or waitlist applicants or do they reject people too?

Lacie218

what do you mean you got a “likely” from Columbia

likely letters by ivies to those who will ‘probably’ get in as long as they don’t fail out of class, commit murder, rob a bank, etc. etc.

yes, DO THEY REJECT PEOPLE OUTRIGHT? (that weren 't deffered ED?)

Yes, WashU rejects people.

Check out the other thread in this forum - “Official Waiting List”

Somewhere around page 19/20/21, a few people post their rejections.

But I would think that WashU doesn’t reject as many applicants as other schools, obviously given the amazingly large amount of people who are WL’d. Also, CC is full of very competitive applicants, so the number of rejections would be low.

And - people who are rejected probably aren’t going to post that they were rejected.

But you didn’t have to take English in high school?

I got waitlisted too. Don’t really care though, since I have a full-ride to Vanderbilt.

waylay00

i applied to vandy too
what scholarship did you get? was it one of their 3 merit ones or something else?

what are your stats?

pklibanoff:

Yeah, I got the Cornelius Vanderbilt scholarship.

Here’s a brief rundown on stats:
GPA: 5.49 Weighted
SAT (superscore): 2310 (800 M, 730 W, 780 CR)
SAT II: 770 US History, 750 Latin, 740 Physics
AP: All 5s (US Hist, Euro Hist, Phys B, Latin Vergil, Eng Comp)
NM Finalist, Cum Laude, National Honor Society, etc…

Pretty much took as many difficult classes as I could (all honors accelerated or AP)

Positions, ECs, etc…:

 • Editor-in-chief of school newspaper (participant for four years)
 • MUN/Youth Legislature (four years)
 • Government Club VP
 • Latin Club President
 • Avid guitar player (it’s my main EC)
 • Founded/initiated school’s first recycling program
 • Quiz Bowl/Knowledge Bowl (3 years)
 • Many other minor activities/accolades not really worth mentioning here…

I visited Vandy back in 2008 for a formal tour, and one of my teachers who wrote a recommendation went there (although I am unable to read what he said, I’m sure it was positive). Didn’t do an interview though.

My school usually has a really good history with Wash U, and I’m looking at a scattegram on Naviance of my school’s track record. Ironically (and not to sound cocky), I’m the “highest” student on the graph in terms of GPA and test scores, but pretty much everyone else below me got accepted. Go figure.

I bet my “lack” of interest is what did it. I didn’t tour campus, and I didn’t do an interview. Oh well, darn.

wow your stats are amazing

do you think you are going to go to Vandy? its my number one school, i wanna go there so bad

i applied for Cornelius but unfortunately didnt get it

Yeah, it’s my number one too, so I’ll probably be there. Just waiting to hear from Harvard and Princeton.

ummm the valedictorian at my school got in and she has a 2400 sat and a 4.0 and is most likely going to harvard so i doubt thats true about not accepting overqualified candidates because lets face it a few extra points on a silly standardized test doesnt make you too good for a top school like washu. i got in too and im in the top 10% i dont think being accepted to washu means you arent as ivy qualified though. and also HYPS can be just as unpredictable, at my school they have often accepted kinds with 30s on ACTs etc it just depends on if you are what the admissions officer is looking for on that given day.
