<p>If you look at decision posts from past years on this site, you’ll see that WashU waitlists a loooot of people (by what I’ve seen, much more than other schools). @lolToasty - I’d say they have so-called Tufts syndrome worse than Tufts itself. Many strong applicants seem to get waitlisted (or rejected) if they weren’t able to demonstrate interest well enough.</p>
<p>@itenet: A waitlist isn’t exactly a rejection, but you kind of have to treat it like one and move forward with plans for other schools, because it’s impossible to know whether a spot will open and you’ll be offered it. </p>
<p>I got waitlisted too, btw. Disappointing, but not terribly surprising (again, due to demonstrated interest).</p>

<p>What are all of your stats (just easy GPA, test scores, major, and whether or not you applied for FA)? Those seem to be most relevant in admissions.</p>

In past years, we’ve experienced almost every situation imaginable, from seeing many wait list candidates admitted to seeing none at all admitted, and just about every conceivable number between the two extremes. Unfortunately, we are unable to predict whether or not we will have the opportunity to admit applicants from the wait list in any given year.*</p>
<p>I am surprised a school of this caliber would not simply give facts to a straightforward question they themselves pose. The answer should have been something like:</p>

Though for my case, I can come up with a suitable reason. I also applied for the University Scholars Program, and unfortunately did not make it. My guess is they realized I wasn’t actually interested in WUSTL - only the program - which is almost entirely true…
Also, yeah, I lacked demonstrated interest. I barely know anything about the school. I am also in complete agreement about the Tufts Syndrome conjecture; looking at purely the statistics of waitlisted/accepted candidates, it seems WUSTL is bitter about only being a top 20 university, rather than a top 10, and is content taking out its frustration on its overqualified applicants who are using it as a “target” at best.</p>
