Waitlisted in FA?!

Thanks D'yerMaker, but I think the reason why they put me on the list is because I am considered an international student, not because our family can afford it. I will try everything to get into NMH eventhough my chances are slim.

I know. Choate wrote me and said:

"...quite simply, if we had more financial aid we would have offered you a place at our school."

It is unbelivable how much that stings. To know you were good enough, but in the end, you just didn't have enough money.

D'yerMaker -
If we call the schools (waitlisted) that we can pay more or even w/o FA, will that help our chance to get off the waiting pool ? Is it possible we are in wait list because we apply for FA?

lily - same thing for me, except it was another school.

scrocks - I think I read somewhere in the NMH website that internationals can only receive up to 50% of tuition grants. Maybe it's because you needed more?

arling - It depends on the school, but I'm guessing that it might. Olivia got admitted to Choate last year because she withdrew her FA application.

The danger of withdrawing your fa app is that you then cannot be considered for fa for subsequent years either.

We were waitlisted for FA at one school (not NMH) and the materials specifically say that they will extend the decision time beyond April 10 AND there is no contract included. I would think that D'yer's advise is good because it is exactly what this school said in their letter to us - if you really want to come, let us know and you will be given priority. We understand you may have to wait until after April 10th because that's likely when we'll know how much we can offer you.

Has anyone actually gotten financial aid after being in FA's waitlist? How much did you get?
