After going to school happily because I got into my dream school NMH, I found out after school that I got waitlisted and basically broke out in @$#%@$#%@%#. I have never heard of anyone being waitlisted in FA. Is there anyone who have been in this situation before or have gotten FA after being waitlisted? All advices will be helpful. THANKS

I got waitlised at westminster, the letter clearly said FA is limit for waitlist.

So, does that mean that FA is very little to the waitlisted kids?

Awww....darnit!!! why o why must FA be such a complicated thing!!! I wanna go so bad but everything always goes back to FA.....we worked soo very hard on our applications, can't they give us a break?!

Sorry but i just had to vent!

Thats exactly the thing that I did after receiving the mail.

Did you hear from NMH that you were admitted and then later received a waitlist e-mail or letter?

Well I checked this morning on my computer and found out that I was accepted. Then the mail came and basically told that I was being waitlisted in FA

What school is FA?

I'm so sorry. Please don't take it personally. I wasn't given FA either, even though I really needed it, and ended up being rejected. Just try to think that everything happens for a reason. I know it's hard, but it's the only thing that is helping me get over the rejection right now.

I was waitlisted for getting financial aid.

That's exactly the thing that I need to do right now but I can't get over the fact that I've been basically not wanted.

dancerlove..."FA" means financial aid.
scrocks3 - I know exactly how you feel as this same thing happened to my son the year before last. Do not lose heart. If this was your first choice, apply again next year. My son applied as a repeat 9th grader, was accepted, and received all the FA he needed this year.
I am surprised though. I think the online notification has something to do with it, because the year this happened to my son, NMH sent my husband and I a letter several days before March 10th explaining the situation (admitted, but without FA) and asked us if they still wanted us to send our son an acceptance letter.
Were you told you would not get FA or that you were waitlisted for it?

It really isn't that you were not wanted....honest. My son was an exceptional candidate and a highly recruited athlete as well, and a legacy. We just had large financial need and they can only offer so many full boats. They had several faculty children apply that year as well, and I guess their funding comes out of the endowment, as well.

I was definitely waitlisted for financial aid. I just don't think that it will happen because I am considered an intrnational student and NMH has some rule against giving inter. students financial aid because a lot of inter. student families are just simply rich.

We received a letter in our packet from NMH saying that we would be receiving a fa offer but it would be mailed out in 24 hours. Keeping our fingers crossed. I love NMH and think it's a great match for my son.

You got waitlisted for FA, we got a flat "no."

I feel true remorse for you.

It's not an "NMH rule"....the no/little fa for internationals. I've heard that's how it is with most of the schools. I don't know the reason for it. Maybe someone could enlighten me?

laxtaxi....I thought your child was admitted?

Consider this...ask the school if you have an extension until AFTER the stated deadline for replying to them. It's possible that, when the acceptances come in, there may be more FA than they had anticipated. And if you're accepted, with an offer in hand AND your deadline to respond hasn't expired, then you'd probably be at or near the head of the pack to receive the additional FA.

To do this...and buy that extra time and make yourself as attractive as possible to be among the first to get any FA that comes back to the school...you need to attend the revisit session and, if you're still gung-ho after that, you need to tell them (if this is true) that you will accept their offer of admission if (just for example) enough aid comes available by May 1, if they would be kind enough to allow you time to respond after seeing how much aid is available by that date.

That's impressive that they accepted you. They must really hope you will attend because schools don't freely throw around offers of admission to students they assume will decline them. Not so good for the yield numbers, you know. Be proud of that. And take it and make the most of it.

Another reason they might have admitted you without FA is because they might have felt you didn't really need it...and that you would be able to attend even without FA. So, as part of this "extension of time" request, have your parents schedule some time with the FA czar and make their case that they NEED $X in order for you to attend.

In a nutshell, these three steps may be the key to matriculating next year:

1) Get more time to reply;
2) Tell them "If FA, then "Yes" (but only after you've done the revisit);
3) Have parents make their FA case in person.

Good luck!
