Hi, I’m still new with college decisions (just got my first 2 this week) and I was waitlisted to CAS for BU. BU is one of my top schools but how exactly does being waitlisted work since I thought the deadline to submit deposits for schools was May 1? This is a slight bummer but I was expecting to be rejected completely since my essay wasn’t very good. I already accepted a spot on the waiting list but I have no idea what to expect…

Hey, I got my decision this morning and I also got waitlisted to CAS for BU. It is my absolute dream school and honestly I feel like crap right now. I also accepted a place on the waiting list but I doubt I have a chance of getting in now. BU informs you whether or not you got in from the waiting list by June 15th because they are waiting to see whether people who already got accepted decline their spot or not. When by May 1st, they see that people have declined a spot at CAS, they may notify you that you have been accepted. What this basically means is that you are a “backup”. I’m going to submit a deposit to another school by May 1, and if BU responds saying that I got accepted, I’m 99.9% sure that I’m going to go to BU. It is just really tough to be put in limbo like this. I wish they would respond back before May 1st but I don’t think it will happen.

When you’re waitlisted they notify you after the reply date to get a feel of how many more students they’ll need to fill the class, which is why you need to submit a deposit to another school before May 1 and if you get accepted, you can “un enroll” at your current school and enroll at BU, colleges are aware of this and it is acceptable. Just make sure you have a school you’re enrolled in and don’t count on waitlist!

Thanks for the help! I would need financial aid to attend BU and I don’t think (even if I get off the waitlist) that I’ll be offered a lot based off of FA packages I’ve received from other schools so I think I’m going to ask to be taken off the waitlist
