Waitlisted to Exeter

So I was waitlisted to Exeter and still am on the waitlist. I was wondering who else is on it and how many people are on it? I'm on it for the eleventh grade. Also, how many people does Exeter usually accept from their waitlist?

i know somebody who is still on for 10th… and it varies each year (as to how many they let in)

i’m still on for 10th- just got an email about waitlist and hoping to still get accepted.

The graduation edition of The Exonian (from June 7) indicated all classes are full, with the majority of waitlist offers having been extended to incoming lowers. It appears that waitlists are being maintained for all classes in case some spots nevertheless open up over the summer, but that this is not a high probability event for any of the classes.

I read another article from the exonian (an earlier issue) which said that they keep people on the waitlist in case people lose their jobs and have to pull out at the last minute. When the economy is so volatile it makes sense for them to keep a few people on. I don’t know if that should give you guys confidence or worries. Hope that helps though.

If someone pulled out now wouldn’t they be liable for the whole year’s tuition? Or would they only lose their deposit?

I think just the deposit because we only actually sent in the whole 40k as of like a week ago and people might have pulled out then.

Is there any other way to get out of a waitlist other than telling them that you don’t need FA anymore? Such as sending more recommendations…

The answer on the tuition question is that enrollment obliges a student to pay the entire upcoming year’s tuition unless written notice of cancellation of enrollment is given by July 1st. If written cancellation of enrollment is given by July 1, then you only would lose the deposit. After that, yes, you’re on the hook for the whole thing (although you can buy tuition refund insurance for a pretty hefty fee at the time the enrollment contract is signed…but if you read the extra-small print, that may well not even apply if a student decides not to attend due to personal/family/financial decisions).

The July 1st date for cancellation coincides with the due date for paying either half the year’s tuition or the full year’s tuition (another payment plan had its first payment due May 1, and a student on that plan who cancelled enrollment would forfeit any initial tuition payments as well). Therefore if there is any reasonable prospect that waitlist spaces will open up for financial reasons, the meaningful date is probably July 1st, and it seems to make sense for waitlists to be maintained through then just in case.

Interesting- thanks Momalot! We are one of the families who started paying in May so I thought the cancellation ship had sailed so to speak.

Another question- where can I read the exonian? Is it posted in the parents’ section?

Thanks!

PA-C–I’m afraid I haven’t found an online source for the Exonian. There may not be one, because another poster here spent a tremendous amount of time retyping entire articles to give information to waitlist people on some other threads.

That’s right; it’s not on-line. They sell subscriptions to the paper version.

That person who spent the time to type them was me =P hehe anyways if you want the person to contact to subscribe to the exonian I’d be happy to give you their email. Just pm me. Although there not going to be printing during the summer…
