Waitlisted UCSD for History?

I really didn’t expect a waitlist from UCSD (acceptance rate 36% last year?) especially since I wasn’t applying to an impacted major. I know my GPA’s rather low, but I thought good test scores and great essays would make up for it…
Stats:
Asian Male, $200k+ annual family income
UW GPA: 3.56
W GPA: 4.26
SAT 1520 (740 M/780 E), ACT 35 (33 M, 35 E, 35 R, 36 S)
SAT II’s: World History 790, US History 770, Chinese 750, Math 2 790
10 AP’s throughout high school
National Merit Finalist
Decent E.C.'s, got invited to UC Berkeley for Lincoln-Douglas debate (didn’t win anything), school+county culture exhibits for oil painting, section leader in marching band

Most of my classmates have been either rejected or waitlisted from UCSD and UC Davis (I got in undeclared humanities); the only two I know who got into SD had an average 3.93 GPA (UW) and 4.8 W GPA. Another guy got rejected from Davis with a 3.8 UW GPA, a 1550 SAT, and 800 on Math Level 2. Is there something different this year? The guy who got rejected from Davis said its acceptance rate dropped to 7%, but I find that realllllly hard to believe. I’m positively anxious now about my prospects of getting into USC, UCLA, and/or UCB. Any others in my predicament? Advice appreciated too

More applicants, so more competition. Many campuses have seen a 20,000+ rise in applications this year. UCD admits about 3x as many applicants as spots available, so figure at least 16-18,000 were admitted so the acceptance rate would be in the low 20’s but much lower than the 38% from previous year.

I think USC/UCLA and UCB will all be tough but best of luck.
