Waitlisted Vandy/UCLA?

After my disappointing day yesterday (thanks USC/Berkeley…), I’m more anxious than ever waiting for my UCLA/Vandy decision after getting waitlisted into both and was wondering if anyone had any tips for these schools. I REALLY want to go to one of these (especially Cali) and I heard that showing interest might help. Any tips would be more than appreciated as if all fails, I’ll end up in UMich (not sure about Ann Arbor though). Thanks!

Sorry about your recent rejections. There’s always a chance to get off the waitlist at the schools that you mention. For Vanderbilt, it may be useful to email the adcom there and state that you are still very much interested in attending the university and would attend if you were offered a spot off their waitlist. The same tactic would likely have no affect at UCLA, being a public university, probably doesn’t track interest.

Are you in state for California?

Good luck!

UCLA is super hard to get into this year, especially with getting over 112,000 applications for admission. With the UC’s also having some staff budget cuts, it will mean its even more competitive. Idk about Vandy… what are ur stats?

@notalreadyinuse‌ I’m out of state for Cali… I’ve been there several times for tournaments though and fell in love. Do you think for Vandy one email is fine, or should I email them on regular intervals (not too frequently though)?
@collegebound1333‌ Yeah the UCLA numbers were crazy this year… I don’t want to lose hope though, so if there’s anything I can do, I definitely will. My stats aren’t that high for Vandy, 33 ACT and 3.72 uw without many AP’s since my school doesn’t offer them…

double post, sorry

@UCalBound For UCLA, ur stats seemed good, especially because they love the OOS tuition. The crazy numbers just made it tough. Your ACT scores are in the bottom 25% for accepted students at Vandy. Probably the same goes for your GPA :frowning: Do you have a lot of honors classes? If so, did you take them? My school doesn’t offer AP’s either.

I think a 33 is fine. According to ACT that is the top pecent

@collegebound1333‌ So there’s nothing I can really do for UCLA? And yeah I was surprised I got waitlisted by Vandy tbh…

just accept your place on the waiting list, send them an update on your extra-curriculas and maybe send in a recommendation or two? possibly from a successful alumni who graduated from UCLA

@collegebound1333‌ Thanks. I’ll try to do anything possible.
If someone else has any tips feel free to leave them!
