and i'm taking 6 aps this year

my extra curriculars are very good...

frankly, i thought BU would be easy to get into. i decided to stay on the waitlist and i'm trying to contact them on the phone (i already emailed them), and im hoping for the best.

i called the office right after i heard, a week ago, and the guy said that each year is totally different-- some years they take a huge amount of kids from the list, some years they dont. he also couldnt tell me how many people were on it, and apparantly it really is unranked. i have two other friends that are on the list with me and they both also want to go...

it can't hurt...just send one letting them know you'll attend if accepted and that you still want to go etc...even if they dont RANK it per se they still might look at those people who show interest more favorably

There is a lot of confusion about the unranked waitlist. From my understanding, most waitlists are unranked, because they waitlist applicants who basically cover all spectrums of students (gender, race, intended major, location, activities, etc.), then depending on which kinds of students decline their offer of admission, they can take people from the waitlist who would really fill in their spot. (for example, if only 2 intended broadcast journalism majors said they were coming, they may accept more people for that major from the waitlist to get the right number of people). So, again from my understanding, the waitlist is random and unranked because it is random as to who will accept their offers of admission. Once they know who is coming, I'm sure they put a good deal of time into picking people off of the waitlist. I'm sure it doesn't hurt at all to show that you are interested, so if they are looking for people like you, you stand out right away. Don't take this all as fact, it is just what I have been told by other parties. I hope this helps to clarify some things.

elyse, how did you do that. i applied to the school of managment.... is that why i was waitlisted. i would gladly accept a spot in another school.

hey, I was waitlisted too and am bummed because its where I want to go... anyway

3.6 gpa
1380 SAT
31 ACT
lot of honors and AP classes
good ecs

I expressed alot of interest in my essay I thought, I'm not sure what got me waitlisted, I was hoping to get in. I accepted my place, should I write a letter? also do you think it will take until june 15 like they said in the letter to find out? thanks

I truly do not buy their claim that they do not rank their waitlist. Perhaps there is no formal system of imputing a number to each waitlistee, but I think it is preposterous to think that all students on the waitlist are on equal footing.

bflagu32 - I read on the admissions website when I first applied that you could be referred to the CGS, so I wrote an essay on how I would gratefully accept a spot in the CGS and sent it in with my midyear report...

You guys didn't get in because of your ranks. period. Either that, or they caught a lie on your application--Or your ECs weren't impressive enough. Most of your test schools are above BU's average.
