Does anyone know when we will find out if we were accepted after being wait listed?

I just posted a response to an older waitlist post…anyway, there was a post from last year on May 2nd, saying they were just accepted off the waitlist, so I guess any time after the 5/1 deposit deadline.

Good luck!

Thank you I know that now there are two threads about the issue of waitlist.

I was admitted off of the waitlist on Friday, they sent me my admissions in an e-mail. I’m not sure if I’ll go yet, I’m still on the waitlist for housing at UMD, and Buffalo is still a consideration. Good Luck to anyone on the waitlist!

I keep hearing different things about when we are supposed to hear and it is driving me insane I just wanna know.

I’m guessing it may depend on how far down the waitlist you are, they must have different tiers. How long do the currently de-waitlisted have to let them know if they want the slot?

Idk. I wanna say 2 weeks but I am not sure sometimes they will pressure you and have you get your deposit in within like a day.

My d got an email on 5/2 that she was accepted from the waitlist. The official letter came last week. This is her first choice. Very expensive for out-of-state. Would some please give me a reason to pay $30K for Udel?

boringchapel, just curious what school your D planned to attend before hearing from UDel?

It was the least expensive OOS school DD looked at.

I know it’s cheaper than Penn State and UConn (by a few thousand) and a little cheaper than UMass (maybe by a few hundred).

I know the SUNYs have the best OOS deal around, but the rest seem to be in the ballpark of UDel or a few thousand more.

Boringchapel I’m not sure I can give you a reason to pay 30000 to attend UD without knowing your other options but I would love to know where your name came from.

Her second choice was BU. But, I didn’t think it was worth $50K. She really wanted UDel so bad, I don’t think heart was in any other choice. Now, I would like to see her go to Univ. of Tennessee, because I can get in-state tuition. She actually got into 8 schools, but really didn’t like any of them very much. She has friends at UDel, and that was the first school we visited. None other compared in her mind.

A street name.

Here’s one for you. UT OOS $26,000. Great school. FBI trains their forensics people there. They have a body farm for research with a wait-list to get in. ETSU is $23,000 for OOS. Great small school. Reminds me of SUNY Geneseo. Their Med school is in top 5 for rural medicine. Just started a Pharmacy School. These are a couple of unknown gems, especially for people up North. I found a lot of southern schools to be less expensive, except for Vanderbilt and Duke, of course.

I have a question for lucky&blue. I read your glowing report for your visit to UDel. I am going back again this weekend for another visit and to tour the Chemistry Dept. Can you give me any hints on the right questions to ask? My D. also applied to the Honors Program, but got wait-listed. I guess that killed that. Do you know the criteria they used to get in Honors? I would really like to know why you liked UDel so much and what other schools you looked at.

I do not know what the exact criteria they use to admit students to the honors program, but I do know that the rigor of a students schedule is important. My daughter is a good student, good grades, good SATs and 3 good SAT 2s, however, I think what really helped her to get in to the Honors program was her schedule (inconjunction with everything else, of course) She is taking 6 AP classes her senior year and has taken 4 prior to this year. I can’t say anything for sure but after going to the admissions program last year, and hearing how much they emphasized that, I think it does weigh heavily. My daughter is an athlete and will be playing her sport for Delaware. That factored into our decision because we wanted to find the right conference, the right coach and good team chemistry. That was very important to us. In addition, of course, to excellent academics. We also did not want too intense an athletic program (ie: a coach who thought going to labs would be a problem, because believe me we did encounter that at certain schools and teams with extremely heavy travel schedules) because academics is the reason she is going to college. Other schools we were considering were Johns Hopkins (the most serious contender other than delaware), Amherst, Middlebury, Carnegie Mellon, Emory, George Washington, Cornell, Binghampton, UConn, Elon, and many others that I can’t think of at the moment. The division 3 schools were too small for her and don’t give any money except for need based financial aid. My daughter also wanted a larger school with more of a “Ra Ra” factor. We loved the size of Delaware in terms of students and also the size of the campus seemed extremely managable. We live in New York and liked that she wouldnt be too far away (she liked that too). We visited many times and never, ever felt brushed off by anyone (and trust me we had A LOT of questions). The Chemistry department visit reinforced my daughter’s decision to be a biochemistry major. We were impressed with the program, it’s students success and the relatively small size of the program and class size. The money they have put into that program is impressive (especially considering it’s relatively small size). My daughter had two visits to UD, both overnight, both times staying with a girl from the team. She came home from each trip (although completely different) loving everything about the school. She felt that the kids were very nice, very inviting, loved the town, loved the dorms (even the honors dorm which was much smaller and not as modern as the suite she stayed in on one of her visits) and just really felt like she belonged there and would be successful in that environment.

Wow. That was long, sorry. I hope I answered all of your questions and I hope some of it was helpful. Please feel free if you have anymore.

also, what I forgot to mention in my novel above is that the reason why the distance would even be a factor is with her playing a sport, we will be able to go watch her play when she is playing at Delaware if all we have to do is get into the car and drive 3 hours rather than start with plane reservations, car rentals, etc.

Wow, this almost sounds like it could have been written by me. You looked at a lot of really good schools. That makes me feel better about UDel. My daughter was a late bloomer and just took college classes this year. SAT scores above average, but not outstanding. Her grades this year have gone up to a 96 average, but I guess they only looked at the first 3 years of HS, which were not bad, around 90. My daughter mainly wanted to go there for the skating team, and also stayed a couple of times with friends on the team. That’s why she is so comfortable there. She stayed in a dorm close to public safety, which I thought was awful. She didn’t seem to mind. She applied to 14 schools, Elon was one of them, and got into only 8. Not too bad, at least she has choices. We live in NY, so Delaware is only 3 hours away. We went to Oswego in Feb and it was snowing so hard sideways, you couldn’t see the campus. Albany and Binghamton were awful. After all the traveling and looking, Delaware was the first place we went, and has always been her first choice. We’re going this weekend again to look at the Chemistry Department, which I heard good things about. Got any good advice for me about the right questions to ask? By the way, I found an article on-line where the room and board are going up for Fall 09, and probably tuition, which will be decided in July. Can we ever catch a break?
