I thought I'd be outright accepted or rejected from Reed, not wait-listed. It seems a little odd to me to be put on such a limbo; I've never visited Reed before, so I don't know if it's worth it to stake a claim on a place in the class of 2013. If I got accepted with decent aid, I would definitely visit; if I was rejected, I might easily put out the thought of seeing Reed.

Gah, I don't know. Even though Reed wasn't my top choice, I was in love with the idea of attending such a place.

No, no, I probably won't stay on the wait-list. I'm grateful for the schools that have accepted me so far, and still have a few more decisions to wait for. Plus, I think the people who truly want to go to Reed should have a bigger chance...and the line "If you have applied for financial aid, you should be aware financial aid may not be available for students admitted from the waiting list." doesn't sound promising to me. I really do need the money.

I was also waitlisted. I think I’ll wait for my other results and then decide…Chances are I won’t be getting much FA from Reed anyway (as they said in the letter that by May 1 they probably have no funds left).
I would LOVE to go to Reed though :)

I will also reject the waitlist. I need FA and I’m an iternational student, so I see no chances anyway. Actually, I was sure that they would reject me straight away. On Monday I will hear from all other colleges and if any of them accepts me, I’m giving up the waitlist.

International here, and waitlisted as well. I don’t feel as bad as I could be feeling I think, and most likely I will be declining the wait-list also.

waitlisted too. it’s my first waitlist notification, so it sort of took my by surprise. I doubt I’ll stay on the list just because I live on the other side of the country and haven’t visited. there’s just something about being waitlisted that makes me think I wouldn’t get in anyway…

Waitlisted over here. I’m visiting the campus next week and sending in a supplemental packet containing a short essay and a short story I wrote recently (I’m looking to study writing, so I figure that ought to help). I’m pretty excited at getting a shot since Reed was a reach for me but looks like a pretty awesome school.

You guys shall have my spot. I’m not going. Reed is not the school that they advertise themselves to be. (If you want to ask me about my visit, pm me.) Good luck!

I don’t know what it is you’re talking about with your visit, but my visit to the school was absolutely amazing. The students were very friendly and we had conversations about music/books/life and so on and then my tour was also wonderful. Mayhaps you just happened upon them on a bad/busy day?

In any case I hope to see some of you there next year!

waitlisted…I send appeal letters to Reed and Berkeley…if both fail I’ll probably skip Oxy, BU, and UPS and go to Santa Cruz…I dont know if I can afford Reed either so if I get in I’m not sure.

does anyone know what percentage/number of people get in off of the Reed waitlist?

It’s not the “top X of Y” because schools like Reed are “crafting a class” and the list isn’t ranked. So if a school ends up needing, e.g., another left-handed oboe-playing quarterback from Switzerland, the closest match is sought on the list and the call is made. That’s my theory, anyway.

also, most colleges use waitlist/transfers as a way to pick and choose kids to round out the class.

freaking a, i got waitlisted at swarthmore as a freshmen. if i’d gotten in there then, i wouldnt be transfering from big state u right now! even as awesome as reed it, i doubt i would have bothered leaving swarth for reed.

i was waitlisted, but today I received a packet in the mail from Reed informing me about Orientation 2009…I never received an acceptance letter/email but they’ve sent a packet to my family welcoming them to the Reed community…***?

Either I got in (!) or it’s just another UCSD type thing

I was accepted off the waitlist!! I got a phone call, during graduation practice of all things, and was given a spot for next year! I’m not sure yet if I’m going but it was really exciting to get in, it has been one of my top choices throughout this process. good luck to everyone else, there is prob still hope to be accepted, I got in on Wednesday -27th

Hey waitlistees,
If you need financial aid for next year and have been waitlisted, it is unlikely that you will be accepted (unless you can pay your own way). It seems Reed has gone over budget for their fin. aid this year because more people accepted it than they anticipated.

don’t know if it’s too late to post this but i declined my acceptance offer (RD) at Reed (don’t let this discourage you, it’s a great school–the campus is beautiful). so that will be one more spot for any waitlistees
