Waive chem or physics major prereq if taken in HS? (ucla psych transfer)

Hi!

Some people who are currently Psychology students at UCLA told me that for transfer students from a ccc, the chemistry and physics major prerequisite classes can be waived IF you took one year of chem or physics in High School.

It used to say on assist.org ("it's equivalent to one year of high school chemistry with a "C" or better") among the lists of major prerequisites, but now I can't find it anymore?

I am an international student and studied both chem and physics in HS (but in Sweden).

Does anyone know if this information is accurate?
My counselor at SMC said he had never heard of this! But my friends say the opposite.

I'm so confused!

If you passed AP tests in those subjects, then yes it counts. If you just took it in high school, you still have to take it in college. You can take take the assessment tests and place out of the basic classes, but unless you have AP/IB credit, you still have to take those classes at the school.

i was accepted into UCLA last year hs prereqs are fine if it says that on assist. if you’re still unsure call admissions, their number is on the admissions website > contact us > admissions

So unless I have AP/IB credit I have to take them? Well, I don’t! :(

So even if I placed above the basic chemistry class, that wouldn’t help either? I still need to take it?

I will call the admissions tomorrow! Thanks!

“It used to say on assist.org (“it’s equivalent to one year of high school chemistry with a “C” or better”) among the lists of major prerequisites, but now I can’t find it anymore?”

from your original posting

i went on assist and their 09-10 articulation says nothing about high school classes. So you, need to take 1 chem or 1 physics class. But that’s how I’m interpreting the change. Call the admissions office tomorrow between 1 and 4 and find out from the actual source

I found it here:

[Transfer Major Prep - Psychology - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/Prospect/Adm_tr/lsmajors/psyc-pre.htm)

It says in red that HS classes don’t count anymore!

Thanks for your help though!
