Waive or Pay for School Health Insurance

I’m attending SUNY Oneonta this spring and I was wondering if I should pay an extra $935 for their health insurance. I qualified for Fidelis Care medicaid health insurance through the NYS marketplace and it seems I can waive their insurance fee and use mine instead. I’m not sure about things like deductibles and copays just yet, but I do know it covers emergency and regular care in the Oneonta area. So should I pay for theirs or use mine? It saves money not to pay for the School Health Insurance but I wasn’t sure what downsides their might be for not using the School’s Health Insurance.

My dd attended SUNY Buffalo.
We used our insurance.
Save your money. You need to make a copy of each page of your insurance coverage description. Ours was anywhere from 10 to 20 pages. Those copies then go to your health office (or wherever they have your health file). You’ll get a confirmation from that office saying that they received the paperwork and will let you know if you have sufficient coverage. Usually, they get back to you pretty quickly.
You should be able to scan them in and send via email.

Good luck! It is a pain!

Ask them if you have further questions.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I’m gonna try to do the same, I think I should have enough coverage to use mine.
