For all of the schools to which I'm applying, I complete my all of my applications before scheduling an interview. I called Lawrenceville today, and guess what they said: We are no longer doing interviews. We can waive it for you. Will it significantly hurt my chance? No, not at all.
I mean, what? I can't have the interview? I mean, after all it's my bad but I'm not gonna be convinced that interviews don't count. Ok, I'm a bit furious so my English is bad, sorry about that. Can't imagine it's March 10th and I'm sitting here crying because of getting rejected to Lawrenceville.
Any insights? Thank you!

Hmm, no offense intended but the norm would be to schedule the interview / tour, then complete the application.

But I thought I was going to complete the applications before interviewing so that I could ask the “What are my chances?” question.

They wouldn’t give you an answer probably. You should’ve at least scheduled the interview earlier. For now, just take their words. Interviews may be optional and weigh little in their decisions, for Lawrenceville at least.

Sorry, but when applications are due on January 30th, January 26th is a little late to be scheduling interviews.

It says clearly on the Lawrenceville website that they conduct interviews from September to January 30th on campus and for alumni interviews (if you can’t get to the campus) you have to schedule them by December 1st.

Remember to do your research on the admissions process before deciding when you’re going to try to schedule interviews and complete applications.

And if they say it won’t significantly hurt your application, then all you can do is believe them. They can’t change their interview policies and interview you just because you didn’t read the website.

They have done you a favor. I’m certain they have told other candidates the school couldn’t interview them. Interview spots fill up quickly. The school is being gracious.

Yeah, I’m a little befuddled at the sequence here too. Even at the glossiest, most prestigious schools, my son could not possibly say whether he was going to apply before the tour/interview. There were two schools that my son thought he would LOVE that he ended up not applying to. It’s not that they “weren’t as good as the others” or anything like that. They just didn’t “do anything” for him. I can’t imagine spending all that energy on apps only to find this out at a revisit. Actually, there probably wouldn’t even have been a revisit because it was apparent at the visit that he wasn’t a good “fit.”

I’m sorry you didn’t get to interview there. Perhaps you could still visit the campus and have an unofficial tour if you know someone who attends? It’s a beautiful campus. But don’t be mad about it. It’s certainly not L’ville’s fault. You chose a somewhat unorthodox approach to the process. Of course, I still don’t see what the point of an interview/tour is when you’ve already completed the app.

Oh, you’re international. I suppose that changes things a bit. It’s not always feasible to visit and you would have no choice but to apply sight unseen. Sorry about that.

Gosh, that must be a tough thing to do. Will you be able to go to revisits at least?

Okay, here is the deal. You’ve had your moment of disappointment, now move on. There is a thread about what to do if you’ve had a bad interview. This is similar. Read my response, it might help.
Also, is it just me or do others find it inappropriate to ask and admissions officer to “chance them”. It may be the way you worded it, but I would find it rather rude to come right out and ask. I think you would be wasting valuable time that could be better spent talking about your interests and other things.

Good luck.

my insight is you’re an idiot. First off, how did you not know when all the application stuff was due to a school you’re applying to? Second, why would you not schedule an interview before or during ur application process? You didn’t say who you are furious at, but if it’s anyone but you stop joking yourself, it’s 100% your fault

Steady there Dbone, assume 8th grade. I kind of like Periwinkle’s positive spin on things.

Perhaps you could do an alumni interview.

Sheesh…Cool down! What happened?

Thank you for the positive input from the parents, zp, neatoburrito, Perinkle and Benley. Lville says as they review my applications, they will schedule an interview if they think one is necessary.
Anyway, to not further my disappointment, I think we need to stop this thread right now :D.

Just goes to show schedule an interview asap! I started app process in December and made sure my parents scheduled an interview speedily. :(
