Wake County College of Engineering

Just curious. Is it really true that it is harder to get into NCSU if you are from Wake County? I’m hearing I should apply to UNC Charlotte but the average stats there are way lower than mine.

My Stats
SAT 1510 (790 math)
ACT 33
3.8 UW 4.3 W all honors but two B’s in AP calc and AP bio
AP calc Ab/bc (5)
AP bio (4)
AP physics (both) current
AP Stat current
AP US Gov current

XC all 4 years and Captain senior year
Track 4 years
Part time job
Volunteer 100 hrs
NHS

Is this a ■■■■■ post? I had slightly higher stats from OOS and was accepted in addition to my Park Semifinalist letter. NC State should be a safety or at most a match, UNCC is definitely a safety.

Few things…You’ll be fine with those grades getting in NCSU. Right there with the rest of the Engineering students so who knows…Funny thing is you can get in Duke and Carolina with those grades but they have no Engineering schools that are accredited. I’d go to Wilmington over Charlotte…guaranteed transfer in Engineering to NCSU in two years if you meet all the requirements. Other thing…yes it’s harder in Wake County to get in NCSU and Carolina. You’ll be fine with your grades.

Wilmington transfer not guaranteed. That program has greater success transferring students to NC State engineering but those students have to have grades. State is my son’s first choice and UNCW 2+2 is plan B. He’s in at UNCC but, like many Charlotte area kids, would prefer to go elsewhere.

Ok not guaranteed…guess nothing is but a high rate of acceptance…puts you ahead of the Charlotte kids…

sure about that? I “dislike” Duke because, let’s be honest, it’s Duke  But they are accredited.

Carolina however - is more like the red and white song.

check out the “accredited location”, too funny.

not in Engineering…LOL…Duke Engineering program accreditations are at a higher lever. Besides all the top firms in Engineering don’t go to Duke first…NCSU is first. Not saying Duke enagineering people won’t find jobs but the #1 firms come to NCSU for engineering.

@wakectyregret Your stats look great! It wouldn’t hurt to apply to a couple of other schools that others might consider safeties but are still good schools. I have seen others with impressive stats still get deferred from NCSU and yes, Wake County makes it difficult. Besides, the other options might offer sizable scholarships to try and win you over.

NC State allows you to apply to two choices; it is wise for future students to apply to engineering if that is your first and then second a non-engineering college major (math, physics, etc.). Everyone has to apply back anyway (CODA) after they’ve completed the chemistry, math and physics pre-reqs so if you kick butt you could probably CODA into engineering college anyway.
