Wake Forest, Bucknell, and Northwestern

I am a junior in high school and am starting to think about colleges to go to. These three are my reach schools as of this moment and I am just wanting to know if it is worth to continue looking at these kinds of schools. I go to a public school in Kentucky and have no idea what my class rank is, but it’s probably top 25% or so.

GPA: 3.93 UW, 4.15 W

ACT: 33 (I plan on retaking it over the summer w/ writing and hope for a 34)

Classes: 7 AP (Human Geography - 3, World History - 3, Biology - 3, English Lit. - TBD, Computer Science A - TBD, Physics 1 - TBD, American History - TBD) Sorry for the ignorance on most of these but the tests are coming soon. Most all of my other classes are what my school calls Advanced which I think is like Honors.

ECs: Eagle Scout / Boy Scouts, Varsity Academic Team, Globally Ranked FIRST Robotics Team, All-State and All-District Tenor Saxophone / Band (I actually quit band this year so I don’t even know if I can use this or not), FBLA, and Beta club.

Random: I am really into electric guitar (I have been playing for 6 years and have been in one band), I interned at a local I.T business over the summer of 2015, I try to “teach” myself some coding skills, I built my own computer and like tinkering with electronics, some on and off skateboarding (I really have no idea if this helps or not, I’m not familiar with this process what so ever), and I probably have around 150+ hours of random community service.

That’s really all I can think of off the top of my head. I am most nervous about the essays because I don’t pride myself on my writing by any means. Thanks in advanced for any help!

Hi! So I’m a senior in high school and will be attending Bucknell in the fall… Essay wise you only have to do the one on the common app which isnt bad at all. I recommend applying ED or ED2 because Regular Decision is VERY competitive and students with near perfect SATs and GPAs get waitlisted. However your GPA and ACT would most likely get you in ED, so if you know Bucknell is where you wanna go then apply ED! Make sure to visit and show interest in Bucknell as well! They do not like to be a backup school for anyone. I recommend visiting all of the schools you are interested in this summer or early fall…as early as possible. Its better to know early where to apply ED and getting financial aid (if youll apply for that) settled so you’ll know roughly what you want and what you’ll be paying

Thanks for the reply! I plan on making a visit up to Pennsylvania this summer to view Bucknell and some more schools. How is the financial aid? I’ve heard at most private colleges it is a hit or miss in most cases.
