Nope, but I also didn’t ask. I’m just hoping any day now.
@giraffe3207 it’s been 7 weeks since submitting everything. Good luck on Wednesday-sending good wishes. Thanks @cbowden12 for the encouraging words.
Hey guys! I haven’t applied yet but I will apply towards the beginning of October. Seeing your updates have helped me a lot though, so I thought I’d come and introduce myself to the support group! haha. I hope you all get positive responses soon!! Good luck!
Son received an email today stating there was a delay.
What exactly did email say? Did not get an email yet. Welcome to the group @hacbbc
@hacbbc I got an email as well. It said “As you are aware, the past few months during this pandemic have brought much change to typical routines and processes. We realize you have been waiting for an admissions decision from us, and we are grateful for your patience! Wake Forest Admissions is currently reviewing Early Decision applications and will be back in touch very soon.” The subject line say Early Decision Delay, but no word on how much it’s delayed other than the comment about hearing back soon.
I did not receive the email either! Do you think it is going out to all ED applicants?
I would think everyone would have gotten it. It was just an announcement for Early Decision Delay. I just assumed they were getting a lot of calls and wanted to get things out. I have another child at WFU and it is a really crazy time there with school starting and trying hard to stay open. Low Covid numbers but very early in the process and many close by universities are sending kids home.
@Pkljgj34 Thanks for the information. Do you think I should be concerned that I haven’t received an email?
I don’t think you can draw too many conclusions during pandemic. It could be that getting the email is bad.
I received the email yesterday too. My application was submitted over 11 weeks ago, so maybe they are sent to those with applications exceeding the expected review timeframe?
As an aside, I recently read a report that 28% of high school seniors who graduated in 2020 are delaying college entrance and will join the class of 2025. The report cited students on wait lists being granted admission to colleges “they did not have any business getting into.” In my opinion, best wishes to any lucky student admitted to their dream school. It did not mention, but made me wonder about, the impact to the class of 2025 who are currently high school seniors. Would it not be logical that there will now be 28% less spaces to be filled due to the deferred admissions?
That depends on each individual school. I don’t know where the report got that 28% number. They must have done a survey and extrapolated. That number would include all kids who thought they’d go to college and did not. It’s not the number who accepted spots and then deferred.
The vast majority of seniors, if they accepted a spot for the college class of 2024, went to college and most colleges did not allow for a large percentage of deferments. Most state schools don’t allow for deferments. Places like Harvard or some of the NESCACs had larger deferral rates than usual (Bowdoin allowed 37 kids to gap out of a class of 500). I saw a presentation by U Richmond last night and they took the planned number of freshman this year - 815. Only 22 kids took a gap year so those 22 will be class of 2025. They said that will not affect how many kids they accept this coming year.
If you’re concerned about the schools on your list (and presumably you’re only concerned about Wake since you EDd there), you only need to look at Wake’s number of allowed deferrals and not be concerned about some bigger picture.
Thank you for your reply and the information. You are correct in that until an admission decision has been made, I am only interested in learning if WFU admission has been significantly impacted. However, if I am not accepted or deferred it will be a broader interest. I was not aware that deferral rates by institution are publicly available. My quick search did not produce results for WFU. Do you know where I might find that statistic? It would be helpful.
I came across three studies - conducted by consulting firms that provide data to universities - that specified deferrals and GAP years (to my limited understanding defined as accepted at the institution but either waiting a year to attend or participating in some sort of career interest or service work for a year prior to attendance) in aggregate ranging from 28% to 40%. These studies were referenced in US News and Forbes among other articles. While they included anecdotal quotes from various universities (including top tier schools) the data was presented as a collective.
Again, many thanks for your advice and knowledgable response.
@airedaleterrier The deferral numbers aren’t “widely available” in any easy way to find but you can sometimes find them in a college newspaper article. University systems sometimes have rules (like the University of CA system that didn’t allow for Covid deferrals at all). Those articles you are reading with aggregate info aren’t at all helpful for any one applicant. You just need to know the situation for the schools on your list. Some schools are not releasing their info.
Many colleges have come out and said that, even with deferrals, the class of 2025 will not be affected. In fact, many that limited gap years cited “wanting to be fair to the class of 2025” as one reason why they couldn’t grant more gap years that usual.
In Wake’s case, I found some tidbits on info. If anyone defers, they aren’t allowed to take classes and transfer credits during that time. That likely kept the deferral numbers pretty low. Plus, Wake has kids on campus with some in-person classes so that also probably kept their deferral numbers low. Freshmen were deferring more often to schools that didn’t have kids on campus this fall and had all remote classes.
DS acceptance letter today by email and portal.
Hey! I just got an email that I had an update in my portal and I was accepted! I sent in my application July 18 and had all the green checks on August 1st
For acceptances, can you guys post your stats and if you have any hooks?
Congrats @Pkljgj34 and @MaryDeac25!! That is amazing news.
if you were accepted, do you mind sharing your stats? Also, when did you submit your applications?
Curious if those accepted also got the delay email that went out Wednesday?
