Wake Forest Merit Scholarships

Does anyone have any information on the profile of admitted students who receive merit scholarships at Wake? Any details on grades, test scores EC’s, etc. would be helpful. And, does Wake offer partial scholarships too or just the limited number of full rides? Thanks

It is on their website. They offer several different scholarships, some are 16 thousand/ year, others more. Call your admissions counselor or the financial aid office and get the story straight from them.

Any information on test scores of kids who get the merit scholarships?

I doubt the school would ever give a precise answer about test scores of recipients, but the website describes qualifications for the Reynolds Scholarship as follows:

Nancy Susan Reynolds Scholars must be not only excellent students and promising scholars, but also creative leaders who are able to influence others in directions likely to benefit society. They will have achieved unusual distinction in the classroom and beyond. Successful applicants have pursued the most challenging curriculum available to them and have achieved grade point averages and standardized test scores (if submitted) that place them in the top percentage in comparison to their peers. Further, Reynolds Scholars have typically been leaders in a variety of extracurricular pursuits and won recognition for their interests at the regional, state, or national level.

Stamps, Carswell, and Graylyn Scholarships have similar language. “Top percentage” sounds high, but the scores probably vary a bit based upon the students’ other accomplishments.

So, for the full-ride scholarships, test scores need to be high, but that is only one factor.

And, there are other merit scholarships listed that don’t have this language. For example, the Presidential Scholarships are based upon artistic or debate talent, so I would imagine that test scores play a lesser role.

If there are past or current recipients of the Reynolds, Stamps, Carswell or Graylyn scholarships, any specifics on your test scores would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know when they notify of these scholarships? Is that already passed or does it come with admissions?

Mid April the scholarship packets come out

Would you know if mid-April is for financial aid (need-based) or scholarships? I was under the impression that scholarship applicants were already invited in Feb and early March and scholarship weekend(s) have already ended.

@ktm456 I believe Wake also awards smaller merit scholarships that come with the mid-April decision. They didn’t require interviews

@modrez3 do you mind me asking what leads you to believe there are more smaller
merit scholarships to come in April?

@joe2015 my friend last year received a “wake forest scholarship”. She did not qualify for any need based aid.

@modrez3 That is so awesome to hear! Thank you!!

For those who received merit scholarships, would you mind sharing your stats and/or experience?? I’m having a hard time finding information about real students results regarding aid.

I spoke with the office of undergraduate admissions yesterday and they said more merit scholarship will be awarded no later than mid April. Not need based, not any special application or interview. Just the ones they award with admission.

This is great as Wake was my D’s first choice and she is still holding out hope, but it’s so inconvenient as I’m trying to decide which welcome days and revisits to plan. Wish they could have told us by April 1! With two going to different schools I don’t know where we’ll be heading this month. We’ve already flown to Wake 2x! Fingers crossed…along with everyone else.
