Does anyone know how (relatively) competitive these scholarships are? Are they aimed toward leadership, or solely academic merit?

I have no direct experience with these scholarships, although I know one of the professors that decides these things. From what I can tell, they look for academic achievement plus pro humanitateism (the person).

They're fairly competitive. Wake usually says that 1500 people fill out the application for the Reynolds/Carswells. As for what they're aimed at, the committee looks at everything (although I have a feeling that academic merit is what gets you in the door. That could be wrong, though).

Out of curiosity, emsibdn, which professor do you know that's on the committee?

They say you should have around a 1450 M/V SAT and be in the top 10% of your class.
