Wake forest OR Univ of Rochester

I have got 2 offers , one is from Wakeforest for ma management; the other is from u of Rochester for ms marketing. i want to persuite the career in an consulting company.
I think WFU is of more greek life which i really like.but as the graduate programme ma management, i am not so sure if I can learn enough things. Because the programe include all the basic knowladge as mkting, hr, bussiness modeling, financing. but all are basic ones.

while Rochester, the program is what i like, and i do think ms mkt is more focused than ma program. but the problem is i like rochester, but this school seems to be too academic. i am not say its not important, but compaired to wfu, it lacks something interesting.

also for the ruputation?
and for the location. i want to know which is better? easy to find a work?
rochester is in NY state, but 6 h drive to NY city.
WFU is in North Carolina, 2 h drive to charlotte.

thanks!

These are both one year graduate programs. I think the best choice would be to work for a few years and pursue a MBA. I like Wake’s MA in Management course offerings but $60k is alot of money, and I would rather have a MBA which I think is more marketable.

Neither is likely to get you there. Top consulting gigs go to students at tippy top b-schools. Both of your two options are regional B-schools.

thx for both of your reply, and i know that both school are not top B-school. but i got to choose one for now. any other comments?

Wake Forest - for the weather alone. The campus is beautiful and there are lots of good, caring people. It’s close to good-sized cities (W-S, Greensboro, etc.) with lots going on. I think Rochester is more than 6 hours from NYC too!

If you like Greek life, there is no comparison. WFU would be the choice. That said, you’ve got too essentially equal schools reputation-wise with UR somewhat on the rise and WFU holding steady. Since the assessment seems to be they are both regional in nature you should consider where you are most likely to live. WFU does have much better weather. W-S and Greensboro (and I’m from exactly that area) do not have more to offer than Rochester, NY.

thanks finalchild and case16! really useful suggestions almost decide to go to wfu

but could anyone tell me which city is with more job opportunity?

same questions , any advices?

Those are bad reasons for selecting a graduate program. Undergraduates and graduate students rarely mingle socially, and that is even more true with professional students like law and business students. Greek life is certainly off limits for graduate students.

Pick the program that fits your academic and career needs best, and also consider finances. Those are the important factors. I suspect each places well within its region, so you should consider where you want to work after graduation.

Wake places well within the South, and Raleigh and Charlotte (both ~1 1/2 hours from Wake) are two of the 10 fastest growing cities in the US by most measures. According to a Forbes report that came out two months ago, they’re #1 and #5, respectively:

http://www.forbes.com/pictures/edgl45emig/no-5-charlotte-nc-sc-2/

Rochester and Buffalo were among the very slowest growing on the list (#46 and #49, respectively).

OTOH, UR very recently has been on top 10 lists for hottest places for new tech and for liveability. Go to UR website and click on the stuff about the city. I am also told that UR has a very strong reputation in NYC FWIW. And I do think the difference in vibe, even for a grad student, is pretty stark.
