Wake Forest or Villanova?

Accepted to both. No financial aid. Live in NY. Eventually want to end up in business, law, or applied math. Looking for a spirited school with great academics. HELP!!!

If you did not receive any financial aid to either, Nova would probably be better because it would be a lot easier to find a job/transport yourself to a job in Philadelphia than Winston Salem

Hi, @hsstudent101!

A lot of students love Villanova and a lot of students love Wake. When I visited Villanova, I did not care for it at all, so maybe I can explain some of the reasons why I didn’t like it. This is completely biased, since I did not, in fact, like the school.

First of all, every single tour guide was wearing a cross necklace and the school is covered in crosses and whatnot. This is fine if you’re looking for a religious institution, and, from what I’ve heard, it is not nearly as religious as it seems to be during the tours, but I felt very suffocated by this. Further, I did not love the campus or the area in general. To be honest, it didn’t seem like a very fun place, despite the hype of the sports and whatnot, and the weather is much better in North Carolina.

Both are great schools academically. I would definitely recommend, if possible, visiting both campuses. They give off very different vibes and visiting would absolutely help you decide if you have not visited already.

Hi there. My son was wait listed at WF and then called today with an opening. Already sent a deposit to Lehigh. We are from NJ. Both great schools but WF is much farther. Any thoughts? He has 24 hours to decide.

I am assuming your son has already had to make his decision. Both are great schools and many students look at both (they are similar). I liked the Wake campus a lot better and thought that the business program was better. They have similar social scenes and, in my opinion, a similar caliber and “type” of student. Lehigh has an engineering program and Wake does not. It truly depends on what exactly he is looking for.

Is the Villanova student and Wake student similar? Both seem affluent, social, big into Greek life…

My son just finished his freshman year at Wake and has 3 good friends at Villanova. Coincidentally, 2 out of the 3 have been thinking of transferring to Wake. Although they like Villanova, they think it has a different “feel” than Wake. Wake (in their opinion) had more school spirit and bigger Greek life. Also, one mentioned it felt more like a national university, he thought Villanova was too regional as most kids he met were from NY, NJ, PA. The other kid wasn’t crazy about the religious aspect.

Of course, this is just a couple kids’s opinions.
