On the first day of school September 24th, 2009, The UC System is calling for STUDENT / FACULTY / STAFF walkouts.

"Let it finally be resolved, that the University of California Student Association stand in solidarity with workers, GSEs, staff and faculty and actively build coalitions with these groups for the purpose of the UC system-wide Walkout on September 24th and the continued defense of the future of public education in California."

ALL STUDENTS who do not attend class on September 24 HAVE THE SUPPORT OF THE UC STUDENT ASSOCIATION, as do instructors who walkout. Join union picket lines from 7:30 am to 3pm at the corner of Canyon Crest and University Ave next to the Arts building and the softball field and participate in campus protests against fee hikes and cuts to public education on Sept. 24.

With over 250 Faculty members attending I highly hope you will support the cause!

Classes are not canceled, However if you show up to class the likely hood of your professor being there is not likely.

"First they made it seem like a 9.7% increase would be it, and we all sacrificed to meet the deadlines of payments collecting money hours before it was due September 15th. Now they want to impose an additional $558 Winter quarter increase! As well as an additional $1956 increase next year. What are the Regents thinking? If this underachieving performance by the regents goes through. These walkouts on the 24th will be permanent for a lot of students. Hopes and dreams will be permanently lost." - John Faheem

Join The Cause and fight for a change. It is time we start the next major movement in California. Walkout @ UC Riverside September 24th, 2009.

The state budget problem is largely due to our poor legislature. Correct. Is this walkout going to solve the budget problem in California? Not likely.

I do not support the walkout on the 24th and apparently none of of my teachers do either since they remain unsigned.

Does anyone else find it a bit pretentious for an administrator to send an email to all UC students declaring that “classes are not canceled, however if you show up for class the likely hood of your professor being there is not likely?” I’m sure that >50% of UC professors will be participating in the walk-out. rolls eyes

When this happened at my highschool, i was like “i’m not getting an absence” and went to class. But my teacher made us all go -_-

But this time, i’m paying for college so i want every single penny of it to count. And i’ll only have like an hour of class that day so i won’t mind. Even if i had 6 hours of class i’d still probably go to class

sigh… Cali Trumpet has a point, a point that not too many ppl realize.
the walk out isnt going to do jacksmith… big deal, we are protesting, etc etc, but this is one of those cases that even if we make our voices herd, money isn’t going appear out of the air. Its almost highschoolish, the whole walkout gig… n i can write up a 10page essay on that alone, hah!

It’s mostly my buddy John n his maytes that be spreadin the word on e’ oli facebooks! well at least for here at UCR. sigh that sun of a gun indeed.

but of course, do as you wish folks! =D if your professors did notify you that class is canceled then take the day off, otherwise as advised before dont take the risk of being dropped for not attending the first day of class.
