For the "Discuss a global issue" prompt.. How much should you write? The prompt says briefly.. but what exactly is "brief"???? it's a bit vague!!!!

10,000 words is a good starting point if you really want to cover your issue.

um..wow lol mine was a page and some? about 800 words I'd say.

the length varies with your topic. I'd say don't worry TOO much about it just make sure you cover what they ask for. =]

Just dont go overboard with it and make it like 5/6 pages?

Oh and if it helps I was accepted EA =]

Mine was a page long, I believe that that is what they suggested... I think. I was also accepted EA, I wrote about the Afghani Opium trade stuff.

Yea, mine was a page and a quarter. I would NOT advise 10,000 words even though Ryan got in too. Being able to discuss something concisely is important, but that doesn't mean discreetly mentioning specific details hurts.

As an EA acceptee, I imagine comprehension of sarcasm is crucial. Mine was just under a page, but I changed to a different font to make it fit.

did you guys put a title on your essay??

um, why? I don't think I've titled anything since grade school.

I really wasn't sure Ryan, but here's a hint for you. Sarcasm doesn't show up very well in print. It requires tone, something one sentence really can't possess. Knowing you I wasn't sure if you were joking. You did spend "300 hours on independent research."

300 hours is easily doable over three years of high school, as is spending 100 hours at an adult day care center and independently learning French. On the other hand, I don't think any college--ever--has asked for more than 1000 words. At 10,000 words you're pushing fifteen pages single spaced.

Since Georgetown's form states "about a page," I would assume applicants would recognize such extravagent sarcasm.

so, no title?

"I would assume applicants would recognize such extravagent sarcasm"

extravagant lol

Speling is an opresive boreshuazee institushun that has no plas in sivilized sosiehtee.

And I think a 10,000 word title would suffice.

I just finished my essay (Cutting it close I know) at about 700 words on torture.

Ryan I am by no means doubting you spent the 300 hours on independent research, and I think its great that you did that. I wish I had the dedication to do that. All I was saying was it wouldn't be THAT surprising for a person who spent all those hours of research writing a 10,000 word paper. I don't know you in person, all I can do is judge you from the little info I know about you. I've seen kids go more overboard than that, but I apologize for not recoginizing your sarcasm.

finished my walsh essay yesterday and it was about 950 words
