also rejected. oh well.

thanks, cosmo! I just read it and really could relate...made me feel a lot better.

wow did anyone get in!?

I'm really scared now, wow
Its not even me receiving a letter.

My god, I can't believe how many super talented people have gotten rejected from SFS.

I copied this from the cornell thread in an effort to help some of you recent "admission denieds" feel a little less crappy than you do. Just insert "Georgetown" where the name Cornell appears. The origninal is on the post The College Rejection Letter under Cornell discussion.

"I'm a Cornell alum who does CAAAN meetings for Cornell applicants in my area. I've enjoyed meeting and chatting with these high school seniors, who in my mind are some of the best and brightest around. I love their energy, their involvement in their communities, and their excitement about the next part of their lives. I often share this site and forum with applicants, because I am impressed with the helpfulness that the current Cornellians who post display towards posters with questions about Cornell.

But in just one more week, many of the applicants I meet in person (and posters here) will be receiving bad news regarding their Cornell (and other very selective college/university) applications. The following article was first published 19 years ago, and a version of it is reprinted every year in the Boston Globe during the first week of April.

Consider taking some time now, a week away from receiving your Cornell decisions online. What he says is true..."

The College Rejection Letter
by David Nyhan

"THE REJECTIONS arrive this time of year in thin, cheap envelopes, some with a crummy window for name and address, as if it were a bill, and none with the thick packet you'd hoped for.

''Dear So-and-so:

''The admissions committee gave full consideration . . . but I regret to inform you we will be unable to offer you a place in the Class of 2009." Lots of applicants, limited number of spaces, blah blah blah, good luck with your undergraduate career. Very truly yours, Assistant Dean Blowhard, rejection writer, Old Overshoe U.

This is the season of college acceptance letters. So it's also the time of rejection. You're in or you're out. Today is the day you learn how life is not like high school. To the Ins, who got where they wanted to go: Congrats, great, good luck, have a nice life, see you later. The rest of this is for the Outs."

Accepted.

SAT: 2310 (800CR, 800W, 710M)
SATII: 800us, 710 bio, 710wh
Rank: 4/300
APs: 5s on US History and Biology
Other: I'm quatrilingual (Arabic, Hindi, Bengali, English) and took Spanish and Latin in school. Also, I got an A on an IR course that I took at Harvard Summer School, but I don't think that counted haha. I'm not sure how good my SFS essay was in content, but it was more or less well-written...my ECs are solid, I have held a lot of leadership positions and started many large-scale fundraising events.

My interview went really well too, but who knows?

Good luck to everyone who was waitlisted, hang in there! If Georgetown saw fit to waitlist you, then I'm sure there are plenty of other great schools that will be willing to take you. Same goes for rejected students, best of luck!

REJECTED

GPA: 3.96 uw
SATs: 750v/690m/720w
SAT IIs: Math II-800, Spanish-730, Lit-720
Rank: 12/609 at pretty competitive public high school
All classes IB
Pretty good ecs, with lots of leadership, although nothing very "foreign-service" besides an exchange to Spain.
One very good rec, one okay rec
Very good counselour rec
Hook: none, I'm a white middle class girl. No religion.
Interview: this REALLY ****ed me off. I spent hours and hours trying to contact someone for an interview, and I never freaking got one. I'm really good with people and interviews, so I'm still mad about that one.

I'm really crushed, georgetown's the only school I've visited and I loved it. Now I wish I hadn't. Here's hoping all my other schools don't turn out this way.

Also, none of those links worked for me so if anyone else had the same problem, here's another link:

estrella72- I read your posts often and wish you the best of final outcomes. My D was has been in love with Gtown since we first visited campus in jr. high so we know how you must be feeling. Chin up....I am sure things will work out well for you.

EC's: Four years MUN and Varsity Forensics, Exec. Board for both

Note: I do already go to a Jesuit school where our admit rate for Gtown is probably close to 50%, though not necessarily for SFS.

I am still actually somewhat shocked to have gotten in RD for SFS, basically without much extra effort other than an extraordinary interview and one visit in person with my admissions officer in DC. I'm waiting for Harvarrrrrd Thurs. at this point, where I was deferred from in Dec. in the EA round.

Wow it just hit me. I'm going to Georgetown. Hahaha.

haha i was accepted ea and i still dont think its hit me yet

momnipotent-
Thanks for your kind words!! It was really nice to hear them. That's great that your daughter has gotten into so many other great schools, and with scholarships too!!! I'm still waiting to hear from 6 schools, most all this week, so I hope to hear some good news! It's strange-- after getting my rejection at Georgetown, I'm not as nervous about my other schools, which I know doesn't make much sense. I guess I just know I won't be as bummed as I am about Gtown, so I'm pretty relaxed almost :). All the best to you.

so i am pretty much absolutely sure that SFS is way harder to get into than the college.... i know 2 people that got waitlisted for the college and when i told my counselor this (who has the same kids) she was like WHAT??? THATS INSANE.... so guys we had some pretty tough competition in trying to get into one of the best undergrad schools for foreign service. if not the best. (i dont know that fact) and being trilingual didn't help me either :( haha oh welllllllll decisions come thursday. AGHHH .... after all US News ranks Georgetown tied with UVA .... that must mean something

ACCEPTED!!!

Judging only by the stats at our HS, G-town and WSFS in particular, did not pick the best candidates with regard to academic preparation. The only Walsh school admit. here never took a single related AP, like US or European History, AP Comp Govt., or AP US Pol. and Govt. Not advanced in her foreign lang. either. Maybe she has a phenomenal hook of some kind, but none that any of us lknow of or can figure out.

Is it just me, or does it seem like some with great stats were rejected, while others from different countries or with alumni connections were admitted?

Private Catholic school attendance seems to help too.
